Be- yond doubt he is the best now up- on the American concert stage and one of the best in the world, The magnificent duet was encored heart- ily, but was not responded to. The nexc number was a violin solo by Adamowski, who presented Fan- tasie Caprice, from Vieuxtemps, m a most artistic and technical manner. To an enthusiastic encore he respond- ed with the well known serenade. When Sig. Brignoli, the great tenor, appeared, he was most heartily applauded. He sang Quando le Sere, from Verdi, with much of his former power, but, to the regret of its many admirers of this great tenor who had been enchanted by his singing in days gone by, it was evident that Brignoh s growing old and that his voice has lost much of the sweet- ness and purity of tone. A veteran in concert singing, and ten yearsago unrivalled, Brignoli has won laurels on which now he might with pro- priety rest. This-is his third appear- ance in Omaha, the first being with Pareppa Rosa and the second with Miss McCullough. The fifth number was the signal for a burst of applause, for now, for the first time, appeared Miss Kellogg in the beautiful Tacca la Notte, from Verdi. The reception of the great prima donna was indeed an ovation, and she evidently thoroughly appre- ciated, and acknowledged the compli- ment by her most magnificent vocal efforts. She was encored agzain and again, responding twice. Miss Kellogg has lost none of her graceful and fascinating appearance, Her dress was indeed a marvel of art, and amnply exhibited her elegint figure ile in perfect accord with the fai face which has drawn so many disti guished admirers to her shrine. Sig. Tagliapetria again appeared in the sixth number, and exhibited the full power of his magnificent voice in the song of The Palms, from Faure. He received and responded to an en- thusiastic encore. Inthe 7th number Herr Liebling again appeared, plnying first, Fantas- ies from Bendell, and second, Gar- rotte, from Bach, after Jossefly. The latter performance was accomplished with theleft hand alone, and as an artistic porformance it was highly creditable. Inasmuch as its execu- tion was almost in the line of difficult finger movements it could only be ap- preciated by accomplished musicians. Miss Poole appeared in the eighth number, singing Tis I, and responded 0 two very hearty encores. The remaining members of the pro- gramme were presentsd as follows - Big. Brigroli, who sa: Embarrass- ment from Abt, and ponded to an encore. Miss Kellogg, who sang with touching sweetness Good-Bye from Tosti. As an encore she gave with charming piquancy Let Them Go, and then responded to the continued applause by singing, in fher peculiar style, Swance River. The presenta- tion of this old, and yet ever new favorite song with all ers of melo- dy, only confirmed the delight her previous appearances had conferred, Adumowski played excellently a seloc tion entitled Polonaise, his own pro duction, and gave pleasing response | to a long continued encore. | r ] The concert closed with a splendid quartet from Martha by Miss Clara Louise Kellogg, Miss Clara Pool g. Brignoli, and 8i aliapiot At its conclusion the audience r luetantly withdrew, and as the bril liant and fashionable assemblage passed out it was the unanimous ver dict that Omaha had been treated to the greatest musical event in its his- tory W, " After Burglar. The question then arises, very per- tinently, why was not such evidence produced if it exists? The decision of Judge Chadwick is manifestly just. In what degree Judge Beneke has conformed to his prerogatives is a legal question. One thing, however, scems patent. If Reed has beenaround here for two or three months, as is alleged, regarded all of the time as a ‘‘suspicious character,” he might have been watched and de- tected. 1If he has commit- ted no offense, why has he been made a prisoner three times, and fined nearly one hundred dollars, nimpli because he had money and kept his mouth shut? There is an in- efficiency somewhere, or an unjust mistake somswhere. When the time has come that a police force of ten men cannot detect nefarious proceed- ings by one man who is known and suspected, in two or three months, the question arises very (plainly whether the present municipal police government hadn't better shut up shop. A New Omaha Medical Society Ris. ing From the Grave of the Old. Died —Recently, in Omaha, Doug- las county, Nebraska. “The Omaha Medical Society.” For several years its health has been poor owing to the inharmony of its partsand for months it has languishe 1, theugh a few frienas tried to keep 1t alive and restore it to a healthy condition; but it died from the wounds inflicted by its guardians who should have been its friends, and from which it could not recover. No physician was present when it died though more than fifty were in the city. Had five been there it might have been saved. Twenty-five could have been there but they were not, and it is dead. ‘‘Not by the public minister of justice nor bya hired knife; but that self hand which writ its honor in the acts it did hath with the courage which the heart did lend 1t, splitted the heart.” SHAKSPEARE. The foregoing is furnished by one of the mourners of the defunct society. Theére have been anumber of attempts to re physicians of the city for mutual ben- efit, but all have failed. The rucleus, however, of a new society is stated to be forming, which promises to grow into a bealthy youngster. Ten physi- cians are now meeting each week, up- on which occasions one of the number furnishes a paper of not less than twentv minutes’ length, whick s afteswards critivised and discussed. As yet no constitution or name has been given to the new society, but it is hoped soon to make an ization, which will both be more flourishing than the old one was in its palmiest days, and also devoid of the petty jealous and war of individual egotisms which tended to demoralize the former assosiatios AB & name for the new society, Tuw Brr would suggest ‘“The Phosnix.” L A Willing Endorser: MrLwavkee, Wis., July 30, 1881, H.
