Pleasant Society Events and Church Gatherings, Bxt aordicary Bailding Aoctiv- ity in Council Bluffs, Enocouraging News From a Pros- perons Farming Distriot In ad i fon to that, tie resolution ha« been supplomented by a vewspaper ati ole, traced to the pen of Mr. nham, in which harsh and unjust ecprsa-ions ar msod towa ( t o class i welf. o has loft his *‘e rmarks" in the article. The above is an extract from an ar- ticlo writton by a which appearcd simultaneously in the two morning papers, who signs his name as “Parent " Wo will say that 80 far as the charge that Mr. ham was the moving spirit in tho ar- ticle which appoared 1 Tie Bee on Monday morning, the writer is mis- taken. Mr. Farnham neither by word, thought nor expression was concerned in penning the first articlo. We belie erating Miss Nye, reported by the committes appointed to investigate the charges of incompetency preferrod by the ‘“‘senior class’ ar.d approved by tho nchool board, was sufliciont prom- ises upon which to predicate tho arti- ole. Waobelieved the report to have been made in good faith with no at- tempt at ‘‘white washing,” and if such was the case of courso no other inferenco could bo drawn. We will say that so far as our presont school board are concerned wo beliove they have the best intorests of our schools at heart. But to tike a stand in the middlo of a school term botween teacher and class is not always a pleasant in which ‘to placo thoso who have the wolfare of our achools in their keoping. Tho board in good faith employed Miss Nye, upon their decision would hang bor reputation as a teacher for all tiimo to come. A dismissal for in- competency would cause her an irre- parable injury, whilo the class could manage without being pormenantly crip pled in their scholastic attainments o got through the remainderof the term. At the samo time, however, wo be- lieve the most advancod scholar that can bo found should bo given tho “‘Senior class” i our high school. The ladies and gentlemen who com- Ppote it are proparing to leave school perhaps for ever, and take upon them the active duties of life, For this rea- son they should receive the most ad- vanced instructions and when a teach- er fails to come up to tho standard she should step down and out. PROSPEROUS FALMING DISTRIOT. Edwin Burtridge, of Boone, called at Tae Bek oflico yosterday. Edwin is not the neatest man about his per- son that ever was, yet he seoms to bo a good-hearted old farmer. Ho takes Tur Bee and says that “the old woman” can't make decent pancakes in the morning through tho weok, unloss sho reads Tur WeekLy Bre. Mr. B. was in good spirits and thinks that Boono's prospect is ahead of any other town in Pottawattamie county. Everybody out there is happy over the future, The farmers all will have enough and to spare. A large propor- tion of them will foed foreign stock this winter. Ho will bhimself toed about 85 head, his son, William, 34 head; Peter Poterson, one car load; L. Goudin, 4 cars; C. Petorson, bl head; Tom French 17 head; L. Jen- sen, 17 head, and John Wilmot, ono carload. Mr. B, says ho shall raiso this yoar 12,000 bushols of corn, 2,000 bushels of oats, 1,800 bushels of Irish potatoes, besidos other farm products and will clear about 5,000, This is oertainly a good showing for a Potta- wattamie farmer, correspondent, Farn- ved that the resolution exon- position ORANGE BLOSSBOMS, Rev. Lowis. greom 18 an industrious, enter- prising citizen of Walnut, this county, with a future before filled with bright prospects. The bride is a most osti- mable young Christian lady, being an active'member of the Baptist church here, The marriago was apparontly a very happy one, the couplo having known and loved each other from early childhood, The large circle of friends and acquaintance of the bride wish her great happiness. She will be wissed in the young circles here, The senior class in tho high school, who are causing that committeo of the school board “to kick in their beds,” comoes within one of bei ¢ female” throughout.
