The arrival of Judge MeCrary, and the preliminary arrangemonts regard- ing the week’s business in the ci and district courts of the United States, delayod the hour of oponing in the latter, ycsterday, until nearly 11 o’clock. Hon, G. M. Lambertson, United States district attorney, as chairman of the committoe, appointed yester- day by Judge Dundy, presented to the court the following resolutions of respect to the late Col. Watson B. Smith, clerk of the circuit court: RESOLUTIONS. Whaereas, The bar of this court has learned with emotion of the most profound and unaffected sorrow that withm this temple of justice, under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Nations’ authority ‘and the pro- tection of its flag, on the night of No- vomber 4th, 1881, Col. Watson B. 7| Smith, then, and for twelve yeirs rk of this court, was set upon, at or the hour of xidnight, by some ardly assassin, lurking within the halls of the building and in cold- blood murdered; therefore be it Resolved 1. That the feeling which dominates all others and first demands xpression in that of unutterable exc- cration of the deed. Resolved 2. That while the duties of the clerk’s cflico may be performed soptably in the future ag in the past, o one will bring to their discharge better ability or moro kindness of manner than Col, Swmith, and none - to a greater extent enjoy the thorough respect and confi- dence of both beneh und bar.
