AR The Hannibal Pnllonuu: Case, National Awoviated Press, Cuicago, October T4.—A special from Hannibal, Mo., says: The coron- er's inquest in tho Westfall poisoning | & tragedy has developed a remarkable state of facts. The witnesses exam- ined include all thuse poisoned with the excepuion of Mrs. Westfall, who died from the eflects of the drug. The negro cook, at first suspected of the crime, was seemingly herself poisoned by eating the oatmeal which contained the arsenic and there is no|= evidence tending to criminate her or any living servant about the Westfall ¢ | houss, One witness testified to hear- ing Mrs. Westfall say a few weeks ago that she did not care if she and her baby were dead. She was but thirty- seven years old and the second wife of Wesifall. The theory that she poisoned the oatmeal does not seem reasonable and is to a certain extent disproved by the testimony. Frightful Explosion. National Associated Press CiNcINNATI, October 14.—A Brad- ford (Pa.) special says: A terrible and mysterions nitro glycerine explo- sion occurred last night. A heavy discharge as of artillery was heard, followed by a long rumbling echo which seemed to shake the houses in the city. The nitro glycerine maga- zine belonging to the Rober's torpedo company, in Lonely Ravine, two and a half miles from the city, and contain- ing 300 pounds of nitro glycerine, had exploded. The earth for rods in every direction was tornup s if by an earth- qugke. Huge trees were cut down small paris of flesh and shreds of gar- ments were picked up. Farther than this nothing has been found. The in- dications are that the magazine was being robbed by moonlighters, who caused the dynamite to explode. It is certain at least that two men were blown to atoms. ——— 14 £ Labor Troubles: National Assoclated Press.
