Meaney & Co.’s con- tract, and $7,022.98 on L. B. Stauley & Co.’s contract, making a total of $46,178.50. The report was referred to the committee on sewerage. Several bids to furnish hay and coal were referred, Mr. Baker presented a resolution to begin at once laying crosswalksand gotting tho street hands to do the work. It was laid on the table. National Associated Press, West Havex, Conn,, September 6. —Justice Booth began a preliminary hearing on the charges of murder against James and Walter Malley, in the Jennie Cramer case at West Haven yesterday morning, The counsel for the state announces that the different. original complaints have been with- drawn, and instead a single complaint made, charging murder by drowning, chloroform, arsenic, drugs and liquors, causing congestion of the brain, and force, causing smothering and suffo- cation, Mr. Curtis testified to finding the body. The eyes were closed, hands crossed, ete., and no water flowed from the mouth. She did nct seem to have been drowned. There were two cuts in the mouth and the face was dark and spotted.
