The Former Plainly Doscribes the Situation of the Ball, *Nrw York, August 9.—Much sur- prise was folt here to-day over the an- nouncement that Dr. Agnew had left the White House, weile Dr. Hamilton only camo home last night without any intention of imediately return- ing. Dr. Hamilton was surprised when the statement was made and said that the understanding had heen that Dr. Agnew should remain until Wednesday n\gfi\t or Thursaay, and that he, (Dr. Hamilton) would return onThursday, or possibly not until Friday. He had received no dispatch from Washington and had had no reason to change any of his plans. The general public has he\er thorougly unders the location of the ball from the technieal accounts iven by the physicians, and of this f)r. Hamilton was asked to explain, so that it might be understood by every one. He said: DR, HAMILTON BXPLAINK, Medical terms are definite and ex- act and have nothing oxwtlf corres- ponding to them in ordinary language. I will state it as fairly as I can and if you are going to quote me you may say this simply: The ball entered the body through the eloventh rib, break- ing it, and about four inches in front of his spine. It was then turned downwards towards the hips inside of the tlesh, which composes the loins, but back of the liver, kidney and in- testines and probably now lies just within tho bares constitutiug the pel- vis about five inches above the groin. The doctor in his willingness to ex- plain the course of the ball and its present location placed his finger at the voint a little above the right seam of his vest bucklo belt as an entrance point. Frem that spot the course of the ball was downward and forward amongst the muscles of the back and side. It mow lies in the right surface of the body about parallel with the top of the trousers pocket and about an inch to the left of the upper hip bone and ahout two inches betow tho surface. “‘There,” said the surgeon, as he thrust his finger in at the point indicated as nearly as pos- sible and which is immediately next races wero trotted, whent duvkuess setfthe rounded top of -the bene on a direct line from thoe navel, ‘‘is where we believe the ball to be and there is where some of the physicians wera half of the erops can be gathered.
