National Associatod Press, ALBANY, June 2 The joint con vention resumed its session at 12 k sharp. H. C. Murphy, a dem- , created a sensation by demand ing that before the balloting began the journal of the convention be read, Lieutenant-Governor Hoskins (stal wart) ruled that no journal of the 1 had been kept and that Al was that of both houses separately. He would not consider the motion unless it was changed to a point of order as to whether there was a quorum of joint conventiony present Murphy changed the roquest, and the call showed that there were present, 21 members more than a_quorum. When the first senate ballot for Platt’s place was furnished, Murphy again rose and in- sisted on his appeal being put to a vote of the convention, and said 102 voten in the joint convention, was not under the law the vote of a quo- rum, Haskins decided him out of or- der, and ordered the ballot to go on. Patsey Ryan, a desperado who lately escaped from jail at El Paso Del Norte where ho was confined for the murder ,{ 4 Mexican, was beating his wife whon Charles Walker, town marshal, interfered, This so angered Ryan that he fired six shots at Mr. Walker, five of which penetrated his heart, The range was 80 close that Walker'sclothes took fire and burned from his body, Ryan es- caped to the hills but is now being ursued by a large force of citizens, here is u reasonable certainty of his being lynched if caught.
