Mr. Pym siid: We very often wish that we had lived in the days when the Lord Jesus Christ wi carth. 1f our learts are set upon this Christ, anl we have learned to know him, the chiefest among ten thou- sand, and the altogether lovely one we often say in our hearts, oli, how Dblessed it would have been to sit at his feet as Mary sat; how blessed it would have been to have heard his voice saying to us Thy sins are for. given thee, go in peace, or how bless- ed to have laid with our head upon his breast as the beloved apostle the ter of these words to every lost spirit did to have locked up in his face and heard his words of love, So it would have been pleasant, very blessed, to have sat at the feet of Jesus. Glory be to God that in this our day and gencration we have the glorious dispensation of the spirit of God, in which we live. nd if we will but believe and t iod at his word we can sit by faith at the feet of Jesus day by day, and we can_realize that this blessed Lord is dwelimg in us by his blessed spirit, and we can understand and know the things of Christ more clearly and far more fully and distinetly than those disciples did when they were in daily intercours with the Lord Jesus Christ himself. They never realized or understood the thing that was coming upon Him the sufferer and savior, that he was about to endure for their sins. But the things of Christ are revealed to us, The power of the Lord and Saviour, the fullness of blessing has been sent to us from God through Christ by the power that was to be revealed as time went on, Peter, the doubting, im- upon pulsive, erring disciple, who d nied Him before all in the judgment hall, when He was in suffering and every human in- stinct in a man would have obliged him to stand by his suffering master— this same Peter, by the gift of the spirit and by the power of the Holy Ghost, stood up and preached the Gos- pel and_ there were three thousand souls added to the church through that one servant. Andso now, in our day and generation, if we only look to the Lord and believe in the fullness of His promise—andjthcjassurance of His word the things of Christ will be re- vealed to us and the power of the Holy Ghost poured into us. It is a glorious dispensation and it is a won- drous thought to think of God, the Great Rulerof the universe, God® the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, the Eternal Jehovah be- ing all taken up, as it were, with the affirs of poor perishing sinners’ souls. You know that in the original the Holy Ghost, the spirit of God is called ‘“‘Paracletos.” TIn this connection the Lord speaks of Christ upon earth com- ing down to us and the meaning of the word “‘Paracletos” is one who under- takes for us any of our business. Supposing you and 1 had property at a distance from us, we would get some onc to manage it in whom we had the fullest confidence, and that man would be our Paracletos, There is another place where the word is used in this sense, in the first Epistle of dohn, “If any man sin, we hay an advocate with the Father.” There that word advocate means Par- acletos,” 80 you see that we have one upon the right hand of God, who is oceupied with our affairs and watching over us at the right hand of God, We have another here upon earth, even the Holy Spirit found in that dispen- sation dwelling in_the hearts of all true believers, and as the father is guiding and _directing all things, so the Holy Spirit is engaged watching over us. But we are told when the Holy Spirit should come, it will con- vince the world of sin, of righteousnoss of judgment. Have we ever realized the working of the Holy Spirit in - our hearts! That is ‘a ques- tion of vital importance to us, Some people say God has taken care of me, but they don’t know what that means. They have no God, they have a Providence, God the Holy Ghost being here upon carth guiding and teaching us. The ques tion arises, How is it with each one individually? Have you realized the power of the Holy Spirit convincing you of sin¢ I this day of Penticost anything to you! Have you realized the wondrous, never ending Llessing which occurred when the Holy Spirit of God came down on the Peéntecost! | Have you been brought to the feet of }L‘lum T \l:/m;';u!xr sin? because if { once the Spirit of God eonvingos us of sin, if onco we look up to Him to con vinee of us sin, He will not 1 He never leaves us under the burden |of our sins.
