We are gettisg ac- wainted with our state and can fore- cast tho seasons with a reasonable ex- actness. When we find the air ex- tremely dry and little or no snow ta the mountains or plains, and the dry blizzards wither all they touch, then wo can have a reasonable fost of & dry spring; but when the air is charged with moisture and it snows and rains casily, when the plains and mountains are burdencd with snow, and the rlv- ers all run with full or overflowing banks, then we may couat on plenty of rain and abundant crops. Such rcsults we predict for this sesson. ‘When suffizient moisture relosses the treavures of earth and air and briogs all the wonderfal reserve forces of na- ture into bountifal crops, you may lock fcr astonishing results. Chinz bugs and hoppoers are things of the past, and wo can predict great harvests. Years of pleaty generally follow years of drouth. The two last seasons opened dry and wnpromising, and our average of products was low, with emall grains at least, and the ground has held ita treasures in re- serve for stupendous displsys, pro- vided the farmer can take time by the foretop and keep up TREE PLANTING. We have known woll plant- ed farms in this state, with no build ings to speak of, to sell for twlco ns much av others, all on account of the home-like appearance of a grove, au orchard, and wind-breaks, the first cost of which was, perhaps, $50—so let us all plant. C. 8. Harrsox. Winter Wheat Crop. National Associated Pr=ss Repart. Cimicaco, April 18—Special advices from wheat districts may be sum- marized as follows from coufidential advices to dealers hero who have agents travelling through the wheat country: _The winter wheat districts are Ohlo, Tndiana, Michigan, soutk- ern Illinois, Missourl, Kausas, Towa, and southern Wisconsin. All advices are to theeffect that in the sonthern portion the crop s looking bad; in the central portion, spotted, and in the northern portion, the most prom- ising of eitber. Iu places it difficult to tell, ssys cne agent, whether any crop has been sown. One very dawmaging cause is the racent ex- tromely varlablo weather. At night the thermometer would go way down andthere would be severe frost, and the next day the sun wocld come up warm and thaw out. This alternate freezing and thawing is dangerous to the crops, which will take a least a week or ten days ef good growlng weather to determine what the stand will be. The insreased acreage upon which some have based a calcolation of the crop is fallaclous, as the se- verlty of the weather will cut theyleld down for thirty to fifty per cent.
