The republicans of the Fourth ward met in cancus in the rooms of the board of trade, Union block, last eve- ning to nominate a ward councilman and seven delegates to the city con- vention, % Mr. J. L. Webster was elocted chair- wan, and Mr. Peter L. Perine, secre- Mr. Charles J. Green moved thats committoe of five be apoointed to recommend the seven delegates to the city convention, which wes agreed to. The committee consisted of Messra. C. J. Green, E M. Burtlett, J. M. Thursten, Gus. Andarson and Nath.n T. Shelton. Daring the absence of the commit- teeit was ordered ihat the caucus proceed to nominate a candidate for councilman, ani nominations’ were asked for by the chair. Mr. C. A. Baldwin nominated Mar- tin Danham, Mr. W. J. Broatch nom- inated Meyer Goldsmith, Mr. M. G. McKoon nominated Ed. Haney, Mr. Feank Walters nominated Joseph W. Barker, Mr. Joseph W. Barker nom: inated John T. Bell, sud Mr. Hugh McCaffey, W. M. Bushman. The second ballot showed that Dun- ham was in the ascendency, though he did not have a majority of those present. Mr. Baldwin then moved to make him the unanimous choice of the caucus, which was do Ic was then proposed to recom- mended by ballot the councilmen at large from the Fourth ward. Messrs. John T. Bell, who received the next highest number of votes for councilma wes sgreed upon as first in nomination, then Meyer Goldsmith, Joseph W. Barker, Henry Pandt and George C. Towle. Only one ballot was taken, which resulted in 19 fur Goldsmith, 17 for Bell. ‘Onmotion Mr. Goldsmith was unan- imously recommended, and the dele- gates tothe convention were requested to advocate him for a councilman-at- large. By resolution the delegates were also instructed to recommend Mr. Jo- soph Bsrker for member of the school board from the Fourth ward. The eommittee appolnted to name’ delegates then reported, suggesting Messes. J. L. Webster, George W. Pettinglll, J. . Christiansea, Ed. Haney, Chatles Tumey, M. G. McKoon and Thomas Callao. The caucas, which was composed almost entirely of the best men of the ward, then adjourned. CAMPAIGN JOTTINGS. ‘The Primaries.
