The Chicago Times of recent date says : “It {u stated, appatently by author- ity, that the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railway company intends to buiid, during the present year, line of railroad from Cedar “Rapids to Council Bluffs, which will complate another trank line between Chicago and Omsha. At this pointan iron bridge has been c.mylmd recently, connecting the new road with the com- pany’s Sabula branch to Rapids. Thronzh trains from Chica g0 to Dedar Rapids are now ran over the rosd. The directors of the St Paal company have recently autho- rized the extension of this live to Oour cil Bluffe, and the preside:t and general manager has been empowered by them to arranze for the immediate bailding cf it. The route of the yro- posed extension lies nearly widway be cen the linesof the Chicago and Norshwestern and the Chicago, Rock Tsiand and Pacific c :mpanies. Important Improvements Con- ‘ templeted for Next Fall. | The board re - assembled at the Withnell House at 9 o'clock yes- terdsy. Present — Hon. G. W. E. Dozsey, chairman, and Meesrs. J. O. Speed, $5000. This is an increase of abont one-third over the premiams of last year. It was stated incidentally that the board started in at this point last year without a eent, and came out with abont $6,000 cash, and thatafter the round-up of mext fall they would probably have a bal- ance on hand of $10,000. This epeaks pretty well for the pro- priety of retaining the fair at this point. The bond of Chris. Hartman, treas- could communicate with her brothers. In the meantime she secured a position in which she could put in her time, while awalting a letter studying After a delay of four weeks, which cost her §28, she ocon- cluded to proceed on her way, in hopes of getting through soms way, rather than to stay in the city until she bocame penniless. Unfortunately she fell the hands of swindlera at the outset. She paid for passage from New York to Pittsburg, at least a double prise and from thence to Omsha §12 more went to pay for ber ride. She arrived in this city yosterday with fifty-six cents and being anable to go any further came ap town and secured lodging for the night for which she paid ffty cents. Returning to the depot with daylight, she invested a nickel of her remsining store inaloaf of bread upon which she subsisted during the day, washing it down with an occasional drink of water. She was thus left with jut one ceut capital and over two thousand miles from her destination. She made herself and her condition known to Mr. B. Prof. Williams offered a resolution 1o the effect that it was the sense of this bosrd that such imiprovements ae were made, in addition to the $500 to be expended m putting the grounds in orier, be firsta horticultural hall, 40x100, snitable for the display of horticaltural products, and if anything further was cone it should be in the direction of the arena proposed by Mr. Walker. A suggestion was made by Mr. Dorsay which seemed to meet with sp- proval that if such arena beconstracted it be about the judge's stand to that it mig' t also be used to walk horses around between heats, and would at the same time allow the occupants of the grand stand a good view of the stock exhibited therein. i After a full discussion of a plan for a0 arena, for exhibiting stock and for walking tha speed horses when they have ended the various heats, it was decided to fence off the quarter stretch north of the judges’ stand so #s to combine both of the above ob- jeots. The horticultural hall to be erected was jeft for future location by the mangers of the Driving Park asso- ciation, The managers received the rauce, from their conference with citizens of Omaha, that the State Fair would be the largest and best ‘managed ever held.
