Particulars of the Death of Agent Wheeler in Limerisk, Rumors of Serious Dissen- sions in the British Cabinet. A"rojecc Proposed to Buy Ire- land of the Landlords for the Tenantry. THE MURDER OF AGENT WHEELEE, Bpecial Dispateh to Th Boe, Dosux, Noveliber 14—10p, m.— The details of the assassination of Mr. Wheeler, near Limerick, a fow days ago, have been received here, While crossing a field, accompanied by a Mr. Moore, slugs wero fited at him from a double-barreled gun. He as struck in the mouth, and three of his teeth from the upper and two from the lower jaw wer: knooked out. The victim groaned and fell, but af- terward attempted to rise. The as- sassin, who had followed him, then ehot him again. Moore heard two more shots, and then flod. Ho in- formed the military at Cals barracks, and the police soon arrived at the scene of the tragedy. Wheeler's body was in & bloody pool, and still warm. His hands were clutchiug the earth, and there were eleven wounds in his skull. Fifty policemen have soarched the district for the assassin, but no ar- rest has yet been made. James path was entertained at s banquet at Cork Saturdsy, znd sailed for America Sunday. A land meoting was held at Thurles yestorday, at which Mr. Dillon_stated that the land league would finish the lendlords if the government at:empted on. A meeting of 5000 pacple at Knockenrose, Ireland, Sunday threat- ened the Jandlords and land agents. Six hundred men are at Lauch, re- beilding & house for an evicted widow. Four hundred of them are reported armed and prepared to resist any in- terference. INFLUENCE OF THE LAND LEAGUE. ‘Special Dispateh to Tux Bxx Loxvox, November 15—1 a. m.— News from Ireland comes slosly and late. That there has not been a con- fliot seems due solely to the leaders of theland league, who have foresight enough to avod one just now. Their orders to the peasants to permit the relief expedition to pass unharmsd, and the fact that these orders have been implicitly carried out, shows its vast power over the peopls. Parlia- meut will be summoned early in Jan- uary. THE BRITISH MINISIRY AND THE IRISH LAND QUESTION. ‘Special Dispatch to The kice. New Yorx, November 15—1 2. m. —A London correspondent of The World telegraps the following: Pol- itical circles are full of rumors more or less circumstantial, to the effect that serious disseusions exist in the ministry concarning the course to be taken in Irish land. T hear, though not positively authenticated, that the res- ignations of Lord Selborne, 1ord high chancellor, and of the Earl of Oork, snd Avery, master of the buck hounds, are likely to be tendered soon if, in- deed, they have not. already been placed in Mr. Giadstone’s hands. These officials are in favor of more vigorous measures for the rostoration of Ireland, and a_suspenson of the habeas corpus in Ireland is still de- maoded. A large and influen tial sec- tion ot the liberal party take the ground that no course of action less radical wlll prove effectual to the end desired. The spectacie of a small army of 900 men, with three pieces of artillery, going to break the blockde of a land agent’s dwelling, is regarded s a scandal to the whole nation. Matters grow in the sister island every day, no individual landlord be- ing now exempt from the stern war. fare declared on the whole landlord olass by the land league. Even Lord Kermore, though a Roman Catholic vesident landlord, and one of " the few supporters in the house of lords’ last session of the compensaton for dic— turbance bill, has recently received threatening letters, in spite of which, however, he returned to his seat of Killarney house. Thero is very good reason for believing that the question is now under the consideration of the government whetherit is not, after all, Dossible to_carry out this prosramme as a radical cure for Irish discontent It is deemed quite possible to buy out all the Jandlords in Ireiand for an ex-— ceedingly modest sum, and to present the land to the tenantry on fixed con- ditons. The landlords, it hardly neod be said, are very willing (@ sell. CABLECRAMS. Dispatches to Th Bee.. al from Toronto.
