The west-bound train had passengers in the Pallman corch,a Mr. Joe Davis and his family, consisting of o wife and six protty and healthy looking chil- dren, the youogest not over six months cld. Mr. Davis was engaged by a mining company at Hancock, a Lake Superior town, and fifty days a30 to-day he, with four othere, were upon a scaffolding thirteen feet high, loading a vessel with coal. The scaff- olding broke and precipitated the four men into the water with the coal on top of them. Mr. Davis fell on the deck of the vessel, striking his back ona chunk of coal and breaking off a small piece of the back'bone. He was picked up and found tc he par- alized from the waist down. The probability is that he he will never recover. He is going to Hastings with his family to live, and expects to buy a pieco of land and have it farmed. He is quite cheerful notwithstanding his misfor- tane and talked feoely to our reporter. His wife has some relatives living about 40 miles from Hastings, but they do not know of his coming.
