THE WORLD—Bavar atterps at Bushman’s, tf fmeats at Bath & Wi Although such items are getting rather monotonous, yet we must tell the etory to-day of another bold bur- glery which happened at the early hour of 4 o'clock Saturday. While the perpetrators carried out success- fully their part of the job, the fruit of theit labor was very light and the re- tuen enough to discourage them intc quitting the business. The scene of this latest rald by the villainons gang which is bidding def- ance to officers of the law gencrally, was the beer saloon of Metz's ball, run sab'e 3 5T doe, 2e4s | b¥ Mr Henry Coops, leeseo of the i SRR heaperthan any. | BNL An entrazco was made by tak- A Sy iug out the side window of the hall, opening on the alley to the south. The latter hea footateps on the floor below, and only walling to partially clothe himsel he hastened down stairs, vhere he found the big room filled with o dense a smoke that he at first supposed the hall was on fire. He soom, however, discovered tho front door open, the window out snd the safe tn a wrecked condition. The door of the latter was blown cloar off, the'lock torn all to picces and the lining badly demoral- ized. The #mall iron money vault in- side contaiving only some papers of no importauce to anyone except the owuer, was carried away bodily. Noth ing else in the saloon was touched, unless in 80 small & way as not to be noticeable. The mouey drawer was ignored, and a quantity of cash stored in suother portion of the room was overlooked. The broty, therefore, was nothing but ¢lory, and the bur- lars certainly have all the glory there s in success. As this is the fourth safo robbery within a short tims, it is preity evident that a isat work that can only be bro ken up when some of its membe s are canght and eent to the penitentiary. That our police force is entirely equate to protect the town against the daring crew, is certain, and that the block watchmen are equally unablo to ver 50 lare = territory not less cer- tain. Then thers is our own Pocahontas —how have they thrown her down from that romantic niche she occupied in the average American heart, by showing thatshe was but a rowdy lit- tle Tndian girl who, when twelve years old, stood on her head, and turned “hand-springs” along with the boys of a garrison town, and later held ques- tionable relations with the officers of the post.
