About 3000 red shirts were received Sanday night. Every species of crime and ouirage will resorted to on Tuesday. After Jewell read it he said, “Well, Thave no fears that our boys will flinch. Davenpa-, chief sapervisorof elections, to show canse why he should not be removel from office was argued to-day. My Eling Manning and Geo. W. Wingato appeared for the motion, arguing that in his recent letter of instruction to supervisors and marshals Davenport had excecded his powers; that cac- tificates of naturalization of 1:76 when presented were prime evidenco of the right of the holder to register and vote; that the supervisors aftsr examining must return the same, aud that the person present'ng certificate from any court might asa matter of right refuse to answer questions now provided by supervisors. aven- port’s counsel, Ex minis‘er Stohghton, Elihu Rool and Assistant District- attorney Herrick, contended that the proceedings were ircegular in form, and that the in- stractions complained of were in sub- stance the same as issued in previons years, and were in the first instance submi‘ted to the U.S. district attorney and judges of U. §. circuit court, and approved. A long afiidavit was presented by Davenport that he had given the greater portion of his time for ten years to studying registration and in investigating the so called naturaliza- tion. In 1868, and especially in Oc. tober of that year, and in 1869, he caused to be counted the applications on file for 1868 and found bat 10,093 that had been counted since, and also found that between 1869 and 1878 thers had_bean added nearly 9,000 to the applications of 1868, and was convinced that fully 12,000 fraudalent Over 4,000 certificates of naturalization were issued in one day. One judge had issued over 25,000 in a session of five hours, and the consequence of these palpable frauds was that he had issued instroctions to supervisors to refuse to recognize papers of 1868. | Mr. Stoughton and the others of the counsel made a long argument, at the close of which the court ruled that, 8s the action of Daveoport was sub- | cash; 39%c for October; 398@39%c for November; 333@39%c for Decomber; 988@39} for the year; 44§@44§ for Oats—Opened higher and declined; 30@32%¢ for cash; 2930 for October; “1}e for December; 20%c for the year. The biggist display is that of the B. & O. railroad, who had 5000 men in line, brought from all points along the road, dressed n blue blouses and red caps, and carrying numerovs banners. The various tab- lesux were immense. To discribe the different exhibits displayed would take considerablo space. They are beyond expectation. Nothing 80 extensive was ever seen in Baltimore.
