The City Oouscil to be En- Jjoined. The city marshal yesterday morning closed up Henry Lucas' place on Eleventh street in pursuance to the orders of the city council at its ses- sion last evening. It will be remem- bered that Lucas was convicted of aod paid a fine for keeping a disorder- Iy house and afterwards took an ap- peal and bad his money refunded. It s clsimed and probably correctly that the appeal wiped out the forfeiture of his license worked by the conviction and that the whole case stands exactly as itdid at the start. Lucas, after being closed up this morning, fled a petition for an in- junction in the office of the clerk of the district court, to restrain the city council and its officers from further interference with his business. The place will probably be run rightalong as usual, and the public which con- gratulated itself on the suppression of a place claimed by the ofiicers to be onc of the worst in the community will “please not holler till they get out of the woods,” DEARIN'S DISASTER. During the performance at the Academy Tuesday, Sam. Dearin, the originator of comic musical instru- ments, discovered that he had been robbed of his fiddle and & diminitive baujo, upon which much of the value of his performance depended. He apologized to the audience, through Sam. Gardner, but they rather thought he was playing off. Such was not the case however and their iostraments were found later inj tho cvening by the police, con cealed in an old stove Insome back alley. The boys who had committed the theft and confessed as to the whereabouts of the goods were releas- ed on the recovery of the valued in- struments. They had been employed to carry water behind the scenes snd thus gained the op- portunity to get in their work. A CONFIDENCE GAME. The officers of the state board of agriculture and managers of the com- iagstate fair were kept at work In‘e Tuesday in their officcat D.T.Mount's wiora, No. 1512 Faroham street, arranging for the coming state fair. Yesterday President Dunham, Sece retary Wheeler and othar officers of the fair were early at their desks and up tothe hour of going to press they were busily and continually engaged in attending to exhibitors and the many others having work laid cut for next week's exhibition. It is safe to say, from the number of applications already made for accom- modations during the fair week, that Omaha will witnessa crowd, surpass- ing in bumbers, the stttendance of any previous public event. It is understood cn good authority that an excursion party numbering 300 is coming from St. Paul on Mon- day mext to spend the entire weck in “he city; the Barlington and Missouri railroad will bring thousands hither, and all the castern reads have the as- eurance of crowded trains from Iowa, The Uuion Pacific road has made ar- rangements to transport passengers from the Tenth strest depot to the fair grounds for fifteen cents one way and twenty-five cents for those who purchase return tickets. We are credibly informed that the company have made special arrangements with the board of managers of ths fair to carry passengers from the Ogdon house, Council Blufls, to the grounds, ad- it them to the fair and return them to the Ogdex house for the sum of §1 perhead. As slready stated in Tue BEg, the hoard of trade at its last meeting resolved to pay particular at tention to the mmodation of vie- itors, and to-day a book will be in readiness in the hoard of trade rooms containing a list of all private residences and other places in the city where persons who desire attend ing the fait can find temporary homes. The secretary of the board, W. C. B. Allen, desires all persons who will have accommodations for sttan: gers during the fair week to notify him at once, #o that applicants can be given the informa- tin_they may desire in this respect. The Board of Trade rooms, in Union Block, corner Fifteonth and Farnham streets, will be specially thrown open to visitors and the public generally during fair week from 8 o’clock in the moraing until 10 o'clock at night. Here ali the agriceltural, horticultiiral and other papers of tho state are on file, and a pleasant meeting place af- forded all who may desire it. Wrile“one small boy in the Sec- ond ward died bacause no cross walks were built there,” we are curious to know how many of the remaining 25 deaths report from that ward were caused by the existenca of that dis- easo and death breeding pond of water on 13th and Jones streets. The friends of the fifty-nine unfortunate persons sho last month were recorded among the dead, would like a more elatorate report on these points, and also the reasons why the recommendations of of the city physician, calculated to stop the ravages complained of are wholly and persistently ignored. ——— MARKETS BY TELEGRAPH.
