Grand Prospects for the Com- ing Hxposition. # One week fromMonday theNebraska state fair, to be holden in Omaha Sep- tember 20th to 25th, both inclusive, will begiv. For weeks past prejara- tions have beenin prozress, the board of managers and the citizons’ commi tee both actively pushing the work as sigued to them, That work is now nearly completed, and is ceriainly such as to give satisfaction to all In- terested in the great exposition, both in this city and abroad. As alroady stated the entries thus far have been largely in excess of those of previous years, and thero is every indication that this will be the largest and most suecessful exposition of Nebraska's wealth and resouro ever held within her borders. The whole week will be fillex up with intesesting events, and every day of the fair well worth attending. “led ing#ho | of § The interest manifested in the fair is very gratifying snd from all parts of the state from the border counties in the south to those on the extreme north, reports come that everybody is looking forward to the time of the exposition and that the attendance will be immense. It is estimated that from 15,000 to 20,000 persons will visit the ity during state fair week, THE GROUNDS AND BUILDINGS. Avisitto the grounds yesterday revealed their excellent location, cot- venience and adaptability for the pur- pose for which they arenow to be utilized. The drive out either by Sixteenth or Eighteenth street is ove of the pleasantest in the vicinity. There is but one improvement in this respect to be suggested. Six- toenth street, while well grad- and in gemeral a good drive iz full of chuck holes, which a fow days’ work on the part of the city force would remove. 1t is to be hoped that the city council will order this work done, as there will be a great deal of fast drlving done on this route particularly, and it eannot but result in accidents if the road is left in it prosent condition. The grounds cf the Driving park have been cnllrfad to furly acres, and are surrounded by a new, tight board feuce, nive or ten feet high, the main entrance being through a broad gate- way on the east side, over which is an arch bearing the sizn, “OMAHA DRIVING PARK ASSOCIATION.” _ The race track within hae been en- tirely reconstructed, ft has been widened to sixty-five feet, and has been laid out and graded on scientific principles. Itis in excellent condi. tion, having been improved by fre quent packing with a heavy iron rol. ler. A substantial picket fence runs round the outside of the track, while aguard rail follows the inside clear round, The buildings are all large, sstis stantial, and of fine appearance, They include Fine Art hall, the amphithea- tre, the officers’ quartirs, Agricultural hall, Pow rhall, two speed stables, dining hall, peus for. all kinds of stock, with numerous tess imiportant steuctures. * The barrscks, approprt | At t0 thg sie «f company ,K. sflf: . b b do kolise Qury T atand Abar $hgmais enirange, te. the- 1 Arahitects Large znd Deiseolt ‘designod iHe vari oun buitings within the inelstite CONVENIENT COMMUNICATION. T addition to the facilitiss for reaching the zrounds from the city by mens of vehiclss, private ard for hire, the Union Pacific Toilway will run trains atshort intervals, carrying passengers ai the cost of twenty fiv ceuts for the round trip. They have made arrangements to run over the track of the O. & N. N. and have run a side track from the main line to within tweniy rods of the main en- trance. Notwithstandiug every facilit, at hand for transportation, it is esti- mated that at least two thousand of the daily attendance are yet un provided for, unless they choose to walk. To obviate troutle in this re- spect it is proposed to pees an ordin- ance allowing teams from the country or from adjoming cities to <come in and run during the week, either free of charge or at a nominal price, Telephones atd telegraph lines will furnish ample facilities for sending messages to and fro between the park and city. ENTERTAINMENTS. During state fair week there wilt be ample means of amusement fur- nished the visitors. The firet to arrive to-day was two car loads of eheep and hogs, from Taylor Bros., Towa, President Dunham, who re- turned from Des Moines Saturday, says that most of the race horses which attended the Towa state fairwill arrive here the last of this week. The Sutton militia _company will come in Saturday in full uniform, The band of the Ninth infantry has been engaged to farnish the music, Do par excellence. iff Martin, of Adsms county- whois assistant general superintend, ent of the fair grounds, is in the city, and has entered upon the discharze of his duties. Special trains, with reduced rates of fare, will be put on by all roads en- tering the city. The prospects are that the fafr will eclipse the most sanguive expecta- tions not ouly of the managors them- sclves, but of everyove throughout the state. Everything Las ‘been arranged to make the coming state fair which_is tobe held in Omsha a success. No doubt the exhibitions made this rea- son will eclipse everything of the past and if ull the arrangements so far made are carried out visitors will de- cide that Omaha is the proper place for Nebrasks_to make her annus] exhi- bition. Vieitors to the state fair will also find in our city other places of erest which should be visited in ordor to fully appreciate our city. | We have one manufacturing estab- | iishment, the smelting works, mdi works, etc., and some of our leading stores would impress them favoably as | modele. The jewelry store of Edholm & Erickson opposite the postoffice is | one of the leading attractions of our | city. By caliing here you will be ments, Gold and _silver, watches, precious stenes and jowelry arranged to pleaze the eye and will be sure to arovse all the covetous feeling in your natare. We are informed that during fair week they will make an unu vally large display at their etore and do everything in their power to give visitorsa favorable impression of Omaha. They manufacture jewelry from Black Hills gold, and people wio have never seen this_precious metal in its natural state will be delighted. Another of the leading establish- ments of our city isthe great dry goods house of A, Cruickshank & Co. corner of 15th Douglas siraets. As they have the goods and under- atrnd how to show them, the visitors will be well repaid for a half hour spent in_ this giand emporium. Omalia prides herself on having tho finest dry goods housw in the west, and 0o one should fail to visitit. Nextto this we mentich the cidth- ing] 0use of M, Hellman & Co., cornet 13:h "andgFaraham. When visi ing here, yon will wonder what they in- tend doing with all the goods they have stacked onthe counters of their greatstore. Buough you wonld think to clothe every man and boy in the Unired S:ates, but when you learn that goods are sold at wholeesle and vetall, and that mot only Nebraska recoives her supply here, but that Tows, Kansas, and ail the 'territories west, aro supplied from tnis grest depot, thenwill you realize that Omaba is 3 great com- mercial city, and tha: Messrs Hell- man & Co., must be a good place to buy goods.
