Among these towns is Car- bon, that looks to that mighty com- pany for its future existence and im- provements. Caxbon claims a pepulation of 700, most of whom are making their lum g from a coal mine thatis situated in the midst of the town, and that is run by the U. P. company. I am told that there is a great lawsuit going on concernivg that mine between the above company and the Wyoming Coal and Mining company, and that thereis a good deal of possikility for the mine to go over in the hands of the latter. Among the miners are several negroes, and some of the white miners are talking about driving them off, but most people hope that the colored workers will be lett alone. As scon as we have finished the road, the U. Yours veiy truly, Joux TIpEMANN. revolve: n honest ard untrammelled expression of senti- ment. It is aead commentary on the republican party ot Nebraska that it permits itself to be used as the engine of extortion and oppres- sion by giant monopolics. Like the faithful sentinel, we sball con- tiauo to warn the party of its peril, and if disaster overtakes it in the comings election, the blame cannot be lald at our door. T Bee is now, ax it ever has been, the champion and ex- ponent of republican principles, but it - will recognize or champion cap. pers and tools of menopolies conceal- ed under the party cloak. The so-called primary clections yes- terday were the most flajrant exhibi- tion ofmonop-ly dominXtion that ever took place in this state. The organ of the monopoly hails it as the voice of the people. When the people have a hearing in November we can confidently predict that they will re- pudiate the work of the bulldozers and hirelings. Meantime we will stand on the same platform of party reform up- on which we have stood for ten years past. Conscious that we are battling for the right we confidently lock for- ward to the day when the principles we advocate will assert themselves in spite of all organized opposition. nev Tur Atlanta Methodist is called a “religious sleuth hound” for openly atating the following reasons why Gaorgia has not prospered during the last ten years: red people have been whipped and e dered without regard to sga, sex, coudition or character, till many bave fled as from the jaws of beasts of prey. Persecution for cpinion has prevailed to such an ex*ent that mul- t'tudes of white people have sought homes in other portions of our coun- try. This is seen in the fact that while the Methodist Episcopal church has been bringing tens of thousands | of dollarsintoGeorgia through all these | years, which sums have been expend- ed for educatimal and religious purposes, instead of receiving the en- courageraent and support from other churches and from thoughtful and well-meaning men, which was our due, been opposed, slandered, and viliied; our church houses for both | white and colored bave been burned, | | and our schools broken up.
