The Sleeper of Sulphur Springs and the Treacherous Traveller, ¥ About 8 o'clock Sunday morning 8 couple of men appeared at Sheriff Guy's residence, on Farnbam street, and there told a strange etory. The eldest of the two men was of medium height, darkcomplected, decently clad and withal a respectable lcoking man of 35 or 40 years of age. His actions were somewhat stranze as wellas his story, but this is accounted for by the factshe relates. His name is A. L. Roesand be came out from Illinois last spring to settle in Nebraska. He travelled across the country with his wifeand three littlo daughters aged respectively seven, nine and eleven years, At Malvern, Iswa, he had bad luck. He put both his horses up in a stable there one night and in the morning they were both dead. He thiuks they were poi- soned. He scld his wagon, harness, etc., and came on Lo Omaha, where he found work at the ba and with 8 tent purchased for the purpose the famly encampedrear Salphur Sprinys, encuch of their household cutfit be- ing left to get along on. During the summer hs accamulated about §120, and once more life began to look brighter. On Saturday after- noon he did not work, but went home and being rather tired laid down to takeanap. This was about 2 o'clock. A few moments previously a man, whom he says ho had never seen be- | fore, drove by the camp avd asked Mes. Rossif she would bake him some bread. No wife was to be seen, no children were playing around him, even the stove and other articlos of cawp furniture had dieappeared. The s eeper felt dazed and bewildered, snd his head appeared to be whirliug, as if the comet had exercised a malig- nsnt influence over him. All search for his missivg family and effects was but what he did find, sad to relate, was an empty pocket, which bad the day before been heavy with his hard-earned shekels. A silver watch a, the latter hav- 1 nugget attached to it, was also taken from his pockete. Atany rato the Omaha thief is up to to the average in his method of descending upon his victims in the most unexpected time and in the most ualooked for manuer. An instance of this wes shown in the robbery perpe- trated Sunday evening, botween 9 and 10 o'clock, on the fewelry establish- ment of S. Jonason, on Thirteenth sireet, between Harney and Howard. Mra. Jonasen's sister had been down tpending the evening with them and when she got ready to go home Mrsy J. suggested to her husband that they should walk home with her as it was such a delightful evening.
