For some time since our notice has been called to the actions of a man named Houck, a portrait painter, who i¥ quite well known in some quarters of the city. These reports were of & very damaging character, and we held them until we might become satisfied of Houek's true character. He left this city aboat a month since, leaviog debts unpaid and suepicions hanging over his head, whichare not atall enviab'e. Mr. Brandt, of Turner Hsll, claims that Houck tapped his money drawer, before his departure, of about §65, and that he also gave him an order of $20 on Mr. Joseph Creighton, claiming that the latter owed him some money. The order was presented in due course of time, and was dishonored, Mr. Creighton rayiog that he did not know Houck and had never cwed him acent This information was given to Houck, who concluded to jump the town, and did s0.
