For severel days past Omaba's mu- sical society has been in a flutter of excitoment over the exciting denove- ment to a fawmily quarrel, which, by rosson of its publicity and probably rious covsequences, all concerned have found impossible to supgress. The lady secms to bave been entire- ly uncovsciovs that she was giving any canss of offence to ber jealous hus- band, and has gene to snd from choir mectings, musical society concorts and evening church with other eacorts. One of these, a fravelig man, whose pame wo shall not give, hss been quite attentive, aud on last Saturday evening accomparied tho talented singer to a prominert church on Eightecn'h strcet, where tho quartette were about to practice the musical programme for the following Sunday's services. He amed hiwself with a brick bat and stealthily entered the building in order to awa't developments. Just at a most inopportuno moment, when all the choir were present, he raised himself and struck the traveling man a terrific blow with the brick bat, knocking him down in the aisle. A terrible hubbub ensued, the la- dies shrieking and the men rushing to tho sssistance of the fallen visitor. During the racket the husband made his escape, and, meeting some friends, told them what be had done, adding that if this didn’t put a stop to such ““funny busiuees” he'd find some other way which would. The choir re- hearsal, it is said, scarcely progressed s smoothly as usual, the refrain, **0, ye rocks and stones, praiso yo the Lord,” seoming decidedly inappropri- ate to the occasion, aud one of the la- Aies being rather hyeterical, the solo singing not as well ren- dered as it might have been under other circumstances. As is usual in cizes of this kind, opinion is divided. The friends of the lady assert that the jealousy of her husband is entircly unfounded aud that his brutality compelled her to seek other escorts to and from the church where she is cagaged as a sing- er. They insist that ho bas been ona perpetual sproe for soms time Fast, and that o really was not capable of forming an opinion on any subject, much less on oae in which his cruel jealously has biasod his botter judg- ment. To the Editor of Tus Bxs. 1 wish to call your attention to the mumerous violations of the fire ordi- nmance in our city by the building of wooden sheds and additions to houses and barns within the limits in which such building is prohibited by the city ordinsucs. The worst of the matter is that it reems impossible to have the ordinance enforced. Complaint to the police headquarters seems to do no good. I defy you, Mr. Editor, to point to & single instance in which* the fine which the law says shall be imposed, has been imposed on the guilty psrties. What good does it do to make complaints if the comp'aints are unheeded. The matter is one which affects the proper- ty and perhaps the lives of our citi- zens, yet it receives less attention at the hands of the proper authorities than a common and trivial offense against the city’s peace and order.
