The usual manner of election is for the compenies to nominate their candi- dates st preliminary meetiogs, and then at a meeting of the whole de- partment an election takes place. The man thus selecied by the fire department is then appointed to the office by the City Councll, who thus coafirm the firemen’s choice. The Contemplated Enterprise Will be Brought Before the Board of Trade To-Night. At the moeling of the Board of Trade to night the subject of build- ing and operating & nail factory in Omaha will balaid before the Board. They tried 1t last summeryand the result was sn advance of thirty cents per keg lately, aad for many reasons nails are likely (s further sdvance. And we are farther eatisfied that had Mr. Beynon put this enterprise in the sume light last spring &s it is presented to-dsy, we would have had a nsil factory ia successful ope- ration at ths time. MISCELLANE?US, Two Colored Women Have a Quarrel, and One Shoots at the Other. Yesterday two colored women, named Mrs. Cornish and Mrs. Thomass, living on Tenth street, between Dodge and Capital avenue, had » very lively altercation. * It seems that Mis. Thomas went to the house of Mra. Cornish to ask her to go with her to & neighbor to explain away some gos:ipy tales, ‘which Mrs. Thomas claimed Mrs.Cor- nish bad peen circulating about her. The two women had egome words, about the matter, which finaily re- culted in a quarsel and a fizht They clinched each other, aua in the scuffla Mrs. Thomas managed toget the better of her opponent, whom she scratched and pounded. She thenv started to go out of the house when Mrs. Cornish grabbed up a “bull-dog”—a five:shooting Tovolver—which she suapped at the departing essailant, but it would not go off. A second time the wea. pon failed to fire, but after repeated efforis on the part of Mrs. Cornish 1t finally weut off, the ball passing through the shawl of Mrs. Thomas, butdid no ipjury to her. 1f it had struck her it would bave gone clear through her, as the ball 'was a very large one. Mrs. Thomns’ retreat was consi erably accelerated by the pistol skot. Mrs. Cornieh came to the police court and swore out a warrant agalnst Mrs, Thomas for asssult and battery. Mrs. Thomas will probably make complaint against Mrs, Cornish for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Married, Mr. T. Walter Read aud Miss Matie Litzen were married last Monday at the Eighteenth Btreet M. E. Church, the Rev. P. C. Johu- son officiating. The church was crowded, tke congregation belng seated by the ushers, Mr. Will Clark and Mr. Will Nash, who, however, could not find recom for all who wished to witness the interesting ceremony.
