In break. ing the glass and while getting in, he evidently cut himself severely, probably in the hand, as tracks of blood were this morning found ail over the establishment, and es- pecially on boxes of goods which he had bandled. Pantaloons, shirts, underclothing, etc, were spotted with blood. In the back yard a plece of paper with blood on it was found. He had probably used tins paper to wipe the blood from his hand. He was tracked by the blood spots on the ground to the fence, over which he climbed, and on which traces of blood were discovered. Everything goes to show that he must have bled terribly, and no doubt suflered iniense pan. This msy account for the fact that he got away with very hittle, if any, plunder. From to-day’s Council Blufis Nonpareil. The excitement in regard to the murder of Mr. David Roverts, near Crescent City, on Tuesday morning, waa still running high at that place yesterday, and every one seemed Jesirous of getting all the informa. tion possible in regard to the guilt of Mr. Jouathan Jones. Yesterday morning at an early hour Mr. J. M. Wright, father of the young man Orlsndo Wright, who it was proven in the coroner’s investigation, had been seen leaving the ecene of the murder just behind Jones, came to this city, and from him it was learned that Jones had done the sbooting. Mr. J. M. Wright, at the suggestion of friends of both himself aud Mr. Roberts, brouglit the boy in and took him before Sheriff Reel, to allay {he suspicion aroused by his hasty flight from the place where the tragedy had been enacted, and his absence from the coroner's in- vestigation. Urlando is a boy six. teen years of age, and as he was naturally frightened by what bad tuken place, at once started for bome, as he says, to fiad his father, who lie desired to acquaint the facts, aud failing to find him at home, procured a horse and rode rap- idly over to Rockford township, where Lis father was, and with him returned home in the evening. He says that he was an eye witness to the terrible transac- tion, and his history is to this ef- fect: Jonathan Jones and himscl{ had been staying at_the house for the past few dsys, Mrs, Jones haviug left him, and no one bsing there for company. On Tuesday morning at sbout 8 0’clock Mr. Roberts rode up t the house and halted, whereupon Jones told bim 10 take the hay rake he had left on the premises home. Mr. Roberts desired to know what meant by that, and Jones an- awered that he was “going to fun the place.”” Roberts then remarked that he could not, for, ead he, “I am going to runit.” During the counversation Koberts had dismount- i snd was stauding at his borse's head, holding the reins In his lelt hand. Upon this as. sertion by Roberis that he would run the place, Jones began firing at him, and the unfortunate man ran around to the other side of his horse and then flad down the road, the enraged man following and shooting at_him until the wea« pon was emptied, it is supposed. Tho revolver belonged to young ‘Wright and was borrowed from him by Jones, at what time is not stated Jones then returned to his nephiew and ssid, “1 am shot, and you will never see me again,” and then he started down the road, as proven betorethe coroner’s jury. The boy states that during the conversation the two men stood within twelve feet of each other, aud when the first couple of shots were fired they remained at that distance. These statements, made by a nephew of Mr. Jones, and one who was & witness of the sad affair. ren— der the guilt of Jonathan Jones conclusive. It seems Mr. Roberis and Joaes had for a long time been the best of friends, and had fre quently met in social gatherings and joined in the numerous pus- times and sports, so frequently in- dulged in by the farmer after the duties of the day are performed. Lately, however, it is eaid, the triendehip of the two men was cooled somewhat by family diffi- calties in which Jones was unfor- tunately involved, and who inti- mated to a freud a short time since, that the victim of the tragedy edvised Mrs. Jones to leave her husban After ihe separation of husband and wite Mrs. Jones, who owned the farm, rented itto Mr. Roborts, and the gepurated husband still claimed he had s right to coutrol the proper It has been four yesr since this company appeared in Omaha. Bloomington, Neb , February 25, 1878.—The current gossip of the day in this county is the delightful weather. Many farmers have com- menced plowing and sowing. The weather has been so very pleasant that 1t seems like & mere day dream since we gathered in the rich and golden sheaves from last harvest, Tunyjgrants are rapudly coming m and taking possession of the vacant acres of virgin soil. And we say come andwelcome. Yes, we feel like stretching fortn our hand all the day long aad erying to the down trodden renters of the more Eastern States to flee from tyranmical op- ppressors, cease paying §4 00 per acre cash rent, as they do in Illinois, sand come to the west, where there 15 land enough and to spare. Yes, and bread enough and to spare. Our citizens are at fever heat, just now, over the final settlement of our county commissioners with the B. & M. R. R. R Co,, in the matter of back taxes. ludigunation meet. ings and maes mestings are matters of very common occurrence, and if aman dare judge from every duy rumor and current statemeuts, he wou'd conclude that about three- fourths of the people of the county were determined to move the coun- ty seat. No matter where it goes, just 80 it moves. And the mandate of the people being the supreme law, it is more than probable that it will move, Tho voting of five thousand dol- lars county bonds, for the purpose of buidging the Republican river at Naponee, iga part of the programme. Naponee is a beautiful location for a town, and her fine water power adds mauch to her importance. It is here that the large flouring mill of Gage, Gill & Co. 18 located, which is in op- eration day and night. This village is situated on the north bank of the Reputlican.
