Boys', youtbs' and children’s | 8 modification of plans 2 Plan No. 1 contemplates taking | | mand at the Police Court, he was | the water at Florence, and the esti- | mated cost is $376,930 00. | Plan No. 2 contemplates taking | the water at Sulphur Springs, its estimatesis $312,729 00. | Plan No. 3 contemplates building | adam on the Papillion oreek, and | pumping to the storage reservoirs— | no settling basms. The estimate for this scheme is $383,854 00. Plan No. 4 contemplates taking | the water from the Missouri river at the rock polut Lelow the bridge, in | all other respects like plans 1 and 3, this estimate amounts to 312,830 00. | 1 have also made an_estimate on 0.1and 2, in substituting two service engines and a stand pipe for a scrvice reser- | voir, but I find the difference 89 | small that the estimate does not be- ] come Important—amounting to about $3,000 less, Lhat Is, taking the water at Florence, it would be $373,045.00, and taking the water at | Ginhur Springs, it would be $308,- | | 845.00. | DURABLE WORKS. | In the foregoing estimates I have estima‘ed for good, sohd and sub stantial works. The sketches and plans T bave made have had in | View, at all times, the increase of population, and are so designed that the works can be increased and en- larged without, in any sense, in- terfering with or damaging those constructed. 1 have not made any estimate for land, but on eithier of the Mis- souri river locations this would be but & small amount; of this you yould be better able to ostimate than myself. Inmy report, m which I hope to mail you by orbefore the 20th of the month, T shall give the quantities and prices, and shall also shew a plan with the varlous loeations; shall describe the construetion of the va- rious reservolrs and the workings of the engines. Of course, in making my report, I shall speak of the merits and de- merits of each plan as fully as pos- sible. A GOOD TIME TO BUILD Did I tell you in oneof my previ- ousletters that the works at Hen- derson were let some considerably below my estumates? Also that they have sold their bonds at an ad- vance of 3 per cent., getting 103 for them. It is an undoubted fact that there neve: was a better time to go into such work as this, £o far as cost goes. 1 hope the information here con- veyed will enable you to settle upon the amount of b nds to be asked for.
