Thursday, at the High School. —John Greeley, who was arrested on the suspicion of beng a profes- sional burglar, bas been examined at the Police Court and discharged. —The “Social Hours” picnic at Hanscom Park was not very largely attended Monday evening,but a very pleasant time was had by those who were present. Hoffman’s band fur- nished the music. —The Bailey Circus tent was so crowded Monday night that several hundred people were unable to gain admittance. The crowd last even- ing was without doubt the largest that ever attended a circus in this city. The performance was fair, —All the base ball players of the city are requested to meet this evening at Brown & Thurston’s of- fice, for the purpose of making up a picked aine to play at the State | Fair. —The citizens of Lincoln were given a rare musical treat last night by the Catholic Cathedral choir and the Omaha City Band. The insurance agents of Omaha seem to be out of luck lately, and are having a heap of trouble in one way or another. —The St. Louis Democrat says: A convention of three-card monte dealers has been called, to meet at Omaha on the 15th of September, to take mensures to protect them- selves and theirindustry against the aggressions of the odious railroad monopolies. Canada Bill will pre- side, and a large attendance Is ex- pected. The noses of Omaha will recelve a fresh coat ot paint for the oceasion.” —They have on exhibition at the wholesale grocery house of Morgar & Gallagher, a ourjosity in the shape of a ‘“grasshopper” bill. A gentle- man while in Furnas county, during the grasshopper plague, lost a five | dollar bill out of his pocket, and re- tracing his steps, to look for it, he found it covered with grasshoppers, who had eaten about fifty holes through it, making it look like a perforated chair bottom, They in- tend to frame it and hangif up in their store. —A party of two gentlemen and two ladies, while on their way to HanscomPark Monday evening,met with an accident opposite Mr. Pom- eroy’s residence on St. Mary's ave- nue. They were driving along the road back of the High School, and on arriving near the junetion with St. Mary’s avenue, they happened to get out of the road, and drive over the six foot embankment, The Lorses fell upon their knees, and the carriage turned bottomside up, catching the ladies prisoners be- neath it. Fortunately, and strange tosay, the horses did not run away, and the ladies were rescued without having been in the least injured, al- thoug they were considerably fright- ened. The gentlemen,whoalso esca- ped unhurt, righted the carriage, which was damaged but slightly, and the party proceeded tothe Park, where they joined in the dance that was in progress. A Row at the Cirous. About 9 o’clock Mondsy evening, the foreman of agang of circus men, who were taking down some outside tents, knocked one of the employes senseless. Policemen Byrne and Christopherson, who were on the ground, attempted to arrest the bruiser, when his gang resisted, and prepared to draw knifes on the officers, intimating that they were governed by the circus laws, and none others. Citizens came to the assistance of the policemen, who finally managed to take and bring the muscular foreman before Judge Wilbur, who fined him $5.00 and costs.
