WiLL the Omaha Republican, | whose proprietor is a member of the | mysterious political order of Protec- tors of Industry, be good enough to explain why the principles of this organization are enveloped in such profound secresy. Tf the industri- al classes are to be benefitted by its teachings, why all this ritualis- tic mumery ? —_— ACcORDING te the Omaha organ of Louis Napoleon, Brigham Young and Captain Jack, “inflated block- heads from Bohemia, are not ex- pected to know much about French affairs, or anything else, for that matter.” Where there is so little expected, nobody has any right to find fault. Such is, however, not the case with inflated blockheads | from the home of the great Sey- mour. They are expected to know much about’ French affairs, aund everything else, for that matter. Hence their inflated stupidity be- comes the more aggravating. W ito can account for the whim- sicalities of genius, especially when that rare gift is possessed by a charming woman. Just now all the high-strung musical Cleveland- ers are scandalized over a little in- cident that occurred in the Forest City during the Saengerfest. ‘When Luccea, the ravishing Ger- man prima donna, Jeft Cleveland, she gave an elegant and costly bo- | quet of flowers, presented her that day by the high-school pupils, to the negro head waiter of the Kens nard House, who sold it for $2. And now the lucky head waiter is enjoying his eivil rights notwiths standing the tantalizing remarks of the disgusted white trash. —_— An indiscrumnate staughter m clothing snd gents' furmshing goods regardless of prices at 206 Farpham street. The coal operators at Strattsville are making final attempts to rein- state the white miners in their mines. The union men object to working at reduced rates. Unless they yield by July 4th, the mines will be filled with negroes. It is rumored that 300 white men would resume work at Danville, but are detained by threats of violence. Competition among coal dealers here has run down the price of coal to nine cents per bushel ; the lowest it has been for ten years. SAN Fraxcisco,June 29. No one of the gentimen named has as yet positive accep- ted, although the intimations from one, prohably two, of the gentlemen are somewhat favorable, Mr. Cat- tell stated last night that he had not yet determined definitely. It is not at all surprising that gentlemen of wealth and position, not residents of this city, should hesitate to accept itions of o little honor and so urdened with laborious and annoy- ing duty.
