Perry left for Fort Bridger was greatly attracted by her appear- ance, and that he might make her his wife, ashe was in searchofa life-partner. Mr. St. Felix refused | to introduce him, but in his absence one day recently, Comjeans man- aged to obtain an introduction to the girl through another par- ty. The sacquaintance resulted on Sunday in a buggy ride about the city and into the country and back. During the trip, the smooth-tongued villain, for such he really was, made the girl believe that he was in quest of a wife; that he had fallen in love with her at first sight; and that she was just the person to suit him ; in brief, e proposed marriage and was ac- cepted. On their return to the city the Frenchman and the unsophisticated girl proceeded to the St. Charles Ho- tel, where the villian there made her believe that, owing to their en- gagement and under all the circum- stances, there would not be anything impropar in their remaining at the hotel over night, and oceupying the same apartments. They did so. Next morning early they went to arestaurant and had breakfast, and after getting outside of a square meal, Comjeans, with 3 politeness characteristic of a Frenchman, begged to be excused for a few mo- ments. He went out and failed to return. The vietim of misplaced | confidence soon scented a “nigger in the wood-pile,” and finally con- cluded that she had been tgken in. She at once proceeded to the house or Me. 8t Felix, and related to him the story of her wroigs. A complaint was immediately made out against Comjeans at the police court, charging him with se- duction, and the warrant of arrest was placed in the hands of Marshal Snowden, who failed to capture him, as he had left on an early train for the East. Telegrams were sent in every direction, but no clue has as yet been obtained to his wherea- bouts. | Drowned in a Well.
