DANIELSON AN Seventy-thres officers and men of the service battery, 192nd Fleid Artillery, stationed in Danlelson will leave the state armory here with the coming of July for 15 days' tour of duty at Camp Bustls, Virginla. The encampment will be from July 1 to July 15th inclustve. The men of the local command ago to take transport at New London and make the trip 'to Virginla by water.} Camp Eustis is only a few miles distant from Fortress Munroe, and the men of Captatn Armington's command “are de- lighted with the fact that they are going south for what in a sense will be & fine summer vacation, though the encamp- ment will be marked by hard work and lots of it. g With the members of the regimeiital pand, stationed at New London, but at- tached to the service battery, the Dan- | islson company will go south with about | 100 men; First Lieut. Anthony Sutherland, who has been attached to the hoadquarters Staff, has been detached from that sor- vice ‘and assigned to duty with the local battery. The service battrey will drill at the state armory this (Tuesday) évening and the occasion will be one marked, without doubt, with much talk of the trip south and the opportunities for sight-seeing that it will offer. The service battery is made up for the most part of very young. men who are developing ints splendid _soldiars. The majority of them wers too young for servics at the time of the World war, theugh there is & prinkling of veterans of that great struggle within the ranks. Captain Armington's orders ara to have the company recruited to full strength for the encampment period. Tho company now has a full quota, but Cap- tain Armington said Monday afternoon that a few additional men might e tak- en on. Another step in the adjustment of the case of the Ewing Textile company vs The Fernlea Worsted company ef East Killingly will be taken with the advent ot the coming month. This step will be the disposal at pnblic suction of the mill, office bullding, stors house, tenement, water-wheel, shafting flume ditches, water rights and rights of flowage connected with the premises, which include about 75 acres. The Fernlea company has been in ths hands of the receiver for many months. At its inception it promised to devolop into a flourishing industry, as tha line in which it was engaged—the manutac- ture of fabrics similar to Palm Beach cloth—seemed to open a great field of opportunity. The Fernlea company did much t5 im- prove the mill property, however, and the hope of Killingly citizens is that the sale soon to take place may be the means of bringing the property into use agaln ®s an active industrial asset. Alfred Pate of New Bedford, formerly agent of the Danielson Cotton company herg and later an officlal of the Fernlea compaay, is the receiver of the compan the affairs of which are being termi: ated as rapidly as is possible uner tne restrictions that must be met. It all gees well, people of nities fereabouts will have an opportunity next Sunday to see the First battalion of the Ith United States Fleld Artiliery, which is to be encamped at Brooklya or in hat vicinity at that time. The troop is en routs overland from Samp Dix. N. J., to Camp Devens. Mulor Wiliam H Kennedy is the commanding aficer. ‘The outfit numbers abont 200 men and 300 horses according to an- nouncements that have beeu received bere. This week the battalion will be making its way by easy stages across Connectl- cut and is expected to arrive &t Brookiyn some time Saturday afternoon, femaining untll Monday moring. From Brookiyn the outfit will proceed to Dan- lelson and then to Putnam, where it is scheduled to arrive about noon Monday and remain until Tuesday morning, yro- seading then to Camp Devens, of which many Daulelson young men have loving or other memorles dating back o the #ays of the World war. If the scheme can be mads to work smoothly, Danifelson has in course of preparation an act that ought to be with ithe Ringling shows next season. The first rohearsal was held Sunday eveninz on the state highway nearly opposite where the state police barracks are lo- rated. Now, to get this act right, someone has got to train a Ford to run on a tow- ing rope.
