TWO-MILE RELAY TEAM TO COMPETE AT ILLINOIS MEET The action taken by the Western colleges in not permitting their teams to come East for the Penn Relay Carnival this year has not hindered the University of Pennsylvania in its in- tersectional oontests, as the Red and Blue will be represented in the indoor relay carnival held by the University of Illinois on March 4. Last year Penn made this trip for the first time and turned in a victory in the one-mile relay. This year the Red and Blue will send a two-mile team to compete with the Westerners in_place of the one mile. This has not been sanctioned by the Athletic Council as vet, but it is ex- pected to be acted on favorably at their meeting this Friday. Penn should have a two-mile team this year that will run close to the record. The team that ran in the Penn relay carnival last ‘year is back at college with the exception of Barl Eby, who has just just lately hung up his spiked shoes for good. Last vear this team. comg posed of Larry Brown, Ed McMullin, George Meredith and Earl Eby, was doing under two minutes for the half- mile and would have run close to the record set by the English runners the vear previous had it not heen for an unfortunate accident in the first relay baton. Chicago, Jan. 17.—Wheat averaged a little higher in price today, helped” more or less by announcement of a good sized decrease in the world's avaflable sup- Dly last week. The market closed firm at 1-4@5.-8, a net gain with May 1.11 718 to 1.12 and July 1.00 3-8 to 1.00 1- Corn finished 1-8@1-4 to 1-4 higher; oats up 1-8 to 1-4c, and provisions vary- ing from unchanged figures to a rise of 15 cents. The decrease in world stocks of wheat amounted to 4,635,000 bushels and was given emphasis by word that estimates of the Australian surplus were being re- duced, officlal reports from two pro- vinces indlcating a vield of 1%,000,000 Dbushels less than was the case last year. Unfavorable crop reports from Oklaho- ma and elsewhere southwest tended al- 50 to list prices somewhat. The slight advance in the value of corn and oats was ascribed chiefly to the fact that rural offerings of corn to arrive here lacked volume, espectally from Tiltnois points, Provisions tended upward in prics as a result of a sharp advance in the hog market.
