A dashing White Rock girl, resem- bling Annette Kellerman in form and imitating that noted swimmer in one- piece bathing suit, has shocked so- ciety by her amphjbioue antics at the Watch Hill bathing ,beaeh. So much so that several complaints have been filed with Policeman 'Lanphear and he decided to arrest her on the first opportunity and have her prose- cuted for indecent exposure or some other charge. The opportunity came Thursday afterngon when .4 = repart came to the officer that the water nymph was at the bathing beach. He hied to his home, discarded his uni- form and was soon transformed into a plain clothes sleuth. He watched patiently for the girl to tire of disporting herself in the water and on shore, and finally mustered up courage sufficient to order the girl to the bath house and to don her street clothes, informing her she was under arrest. In due time the girl emerged from the bath house in ordinary cos- tume, and was escorted by the gal- lant police officer to Bay streer. It would hardly do for the sedate policeman to escort the girl-to the Westerly police station while in civil- ian garb. Jie determined to don his policeman uniform, and left the girl in the custody of Chief Engineer Nasa of the Watch Hill fire department, while he went home make the change in costume. While wairing for the cop's return trolley car approached = bound tc Westerly. The girl made a dash for the car, boarded while in motion, by Chris Feraro to New London where Riley converted a Liberty bond he purchased while emnloyed at the Groton Iron Works. On the return trip, Ferraro was engaged 1o convey the two men to Boston and to leave the main highway en route before out- side the boundary line of Westerly, where Lynch cbuld be found at work. Lynch was seen in a fleld and attack- ed by Riiey and this New London thug, one of the pair using a stone on Lynch’s head, and Ferrano being the only spectator. After the assault the assailants got Into the automobile and were taken to Boston. About a month ago, and after a long trail, the police captured Riley just as he stepped from a train in his old home town, and before he could be hustled into a taxicab. Riley pleaded gu to the assault before-Judge Oliver H. William in the Third District court, and was sen- tenced to six months in the Provi- dence County jail and to pay a fine of $250 and costs. Ferraro was also given a hearing and his case is pend- ing on an appeal to the superior court. He is released on a hond of $500. At this hearing, Riler del A that Fer- raro had nothing to do with the mix- up. Riley also told the court that the other man referred to as the New Tondon thug, was a stranger to him.
