The Winifredian, which als6 has Yankee division troops aboard, had not reported her position, but officials said she probably would come into the harbor tomorrow night and dock early Friday morning. All of the remaining units of the di- sion are on the battleship New Jer- sey. It is due here Sunday. The Patricia has a total of 2,812 of- ficers and troops aboard, including members of the 102d and 103 machine gun battalions, the 101st field signal hattalion and several smaller detach- ments and casuals. has 120 officers, 2,198 men, two nurses {and 13 civilians, the unit including the 101st supply train and the 101st sani- tary train complete. a portion of the 101st ammunition train, field hospital The Winifredian| | LEGISLATION ‘OF GENERAL INTEREST Special to The Bulletin.) Hartford, April 16—The feature of| ‘Wednesday's session in the house was the order of the day, the state prohi- | tion mcasure, passed at the 1817 sion, and which, if passed, at the esent session by a two-thirds vote, would have gone to the people for re crendum and final settlement. The| resolution failed of passage by a vote | of 149 to 89. This _resolution was passed in 1917, and under the law came up for approval or disapproval of the assembly, and if passed, puts the decision to the vote of the peco ple. Representative Cosmer A. Young, of Killingly, opposed the resolution on the ground of the changed conditions, and the underisability of continuous agitation of this subject. He adve- cated the voting of No, and cool off. There is nothing good to come out of the adoption of the resolution. He advise, “Don’t rock the boat.” Representative Sherman W. Thomp- son, of Somers, while in favor of a referendum, but not on this occasion, s the resolution is without merit, hout sincerity. The people should they vote in favor would vote for that they could not get it. 1t was a case of political hoeus pocus, and he advocated making it a republican par- ty issue, and vote with all force against it. Representative’ John C. Geary, of Waterford, said many members had declared they would vote different than two years ago, but he was to be consistent and vote jusi as he did two vears.ago in favor of referendum. The democratic party is out squarely on this question, and the people have {the right to express their opinion on tais important matter. Don't take it as a party expediency for that is a narrow minded way. Leave party out; be citizens first.
