Ley Construc- tion Co. of Springfield, is rapidly near- ing completion. The generators, trans- formers and other electrical equipment are installed, as well as the large boil- ers. One of the concrete smokestacks is finished and the other is within a few feet of the top. Large steel towers have been erected about every hun- dred feet, from the power house to Allyn’s Point, where a tower has been erected over 150 feet high. On the Gales Ferry side the tower is not as high but the difference is in the hill. Ten large copper wires have already been strung from the power house to Allyn’s Point and across the river. The wires cross the property of Nor- man C. Lathrop at Uncasville cross the road just below Freeman’ store. Plans are under way f eling of the Almy place o street which was recently by John McWilliams. The house is to be remodeled into a two apartment house with six to eight rooms to each apartment. Contracting firms in the city report- ed on Monday that the outlook for the coming year in the building line is ex- ceeding bright as several have already made known their plans for erecting buildings in the near future. Plans for two new dwelling houses are being made and plans for smaller operations are also being considered by several contractors. The house on Fanning avenue for | Caesar DelCarlo has been completed and is ready for occupation. The | house is of the bungalow type with hardwood interior finish. In mak- ing these comparisons. however, it is always well to bear in mind that the chief obstacle to huilding a year ago at this time was the weather, which made building op- erations out of the question. Onevery hard one hears talk of contemplated building operztiops and thore is little doubt but that a goodly proportion of these projects will be carried -out, and in some quart=rs there is a disposition to go ahead regardless of uncertainty in the matter of prices of materials labor. Thefe is now lefore the ate legislature a number of bills call- ng for appmopriations for state build- { ings, most of which wiil be favorably acted upon. Further than this, some of the cities of the state are arranging for the erection of new schoolhouses, fire houses, etc, and the volume of public work to be started this spring is far greater than ever undertaken before. In New Haven scveral large and expensive apartment houses are to be crected and a large number of one and two-family houses are now under way.
