NORWICH BULLETIN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1919 WESTERLY Lieut. Charles Raymond Blake, grandson of Mre. Ellen W. Blake of 17 Tower street, who joined the Lafay- ette escadrille in January, 1917, and was later transferred to the American flying forces, was aboard the Italian | steamer Duca D'Abruzzi which docked in New York harbor Tuesday. Licu- tenant Blake was decorated with the distinguished service cross near Las- signy, France, when he and a com- panion shot down one German and dis- persed four others during an attack by a squadron from the famous Capt. Richtlofens command. Lieutenant Blake was 18 years old when he en- listed in the American ambulance corps at Boston. He was later trans- ferred to the aviation branch of the service. Seventy-five of the soldiers and sail- ors of Westerly ai Pawcatuck left town Wednesday morning on the 7.38 train for Providence to participate in the big parade at 1.30 o'clock.
