The needle passes readily through the goods, but slides off the paper; and the work can De bent into any shape and not wrin- kie. I also baste chiffon and geor- gette crepe on, paper when I haye any, sticking to do. This is quite a help. Another help which I know will be appreciated is this: When working.a pattern in crochet which requires a chain on which to work, crochet: your chain and then whip your crochete§ chain to a piece of muslin. After your work is started Tip it off the muslin. Make your piece-bag of mosquito petting. You can then locate the piece you are lgokinz for. How to make balls of yarn with clipped ends: Wind the wool 20 to 40 timés around two fingers, slip off and tie with strong thread, very_tigatly around the, center; clip the ends of the loops; shape the ball, by rolling between the.palms; and continue clip- ping and rolling until it is perfectly. round. If to be used at the end of a cord this should be tied in with the thread. Cut two round pieces of card- board the size of a large spool, make a hole in the center and sew your worsted through the two, then clip the outsides of the card board; then 1 tie a.thread through the center and clip it again. The number of winds “varies” with the sizes of balls made. How to finish hems of dresser- scarfs: Crochet a chain the length of the hem, baste the latter, and then sew the chain right through the mid- dle on the machine. This can be done in any color of thread anl makes & real pretty finish; or stitch rickrack braid on thé ends of the scarf and then crochet into the scailops. A RED LETTER DAY FOR JENNIE. Dear Sisters of the Social Corner: It was my privilege and pleasure to meet with Club No. 2, at, Buckingham Memorial Dec. 4. My first visit with these Sisters was very pleasant, and really a red letter day to me. I had traveled by trolley and steam cars about 54 miles, especially to attend this gathering, and arrived just in good time before the fine dinner was served. . As 1 was Boing up the stairs to find the Corner Sisters, I almost compared myself to the “cat in a straage gar- ret;” but when the sound of feminine voices was h®ard, and then a peep in- to the doorway, where I saw many gold ribbon bow-knots, the feeling of being. alone was removed. 1 was very grateful to Calla.Lily for her kind reception; also, for her introducing me to many new Si whom I had not previously mef was a pleasure to see some familiar faces and receive their greetings. At the announcement that dinner was to be served, we took placgs =* the Jong table, our genial Siser. A 'Mary, standing at one em%. S Tours Truly at her left hand. As we =g Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow, truly the food illusirated the rhantom gifts. Our appetites were keen for the good dishes of escal- loped potatoes, hot macaroni and cheese, baked beans, cold ham, olives, piékles, buns biscuits brown -bread, cake, cookies, pie and last, but not least, good coffee, My! What a nice time we rad, ev- erybody laughing, talking and eating, to make merry for thé spirit of friendship and good will prevailed. Of course, we did find a limit to the din- ner’ hour, and later enjoyed a social chat. Some Sisters had their knitting, or crocheting, and kept busy fingers. We were entertained with selections on the piano, patriotic songs, and then some of the girls, presumably from their ‘teens, partook of up-to-date methods of ‘dancing: also, g few back numbers to make up a varlety. Tt he- ing a party of Sisters, conditions to conform for modern two-steps, were all one-sided. All good times have to end, so was the case on this occasion, for some had to leave carlier than others; and one after another departed, all to take vleasant thoughts nd memories of an- other Social Corner visit together at Norwich. Personally, it was a long dv's ont- ing for'me, as it was rather late when 1 reached, home. Although it rated some in the early evening, T was Trotected by a Corner Sister's zener- ous umbrelia, when T needed it; and at my destination, as T steppeti from the traifl, the stars were shining their gold of the Social Coriw: Many thanks to all Sisters of Club No. 2, for my pleasant day.
