The wcenes of the picture are laid in Eng- Jand and they depict the life history of two aisters, one of noble instincts, the other weak, vacillating and treacher- aus. 'The latter ig about to elope with a mar, but this is prevented by his sudden death. Then follows the un- happy disclosure that she is about to become a mother. The elder sister Breaks an engagement with the man she loves in order to shield her sister and to protect the family name from disgrace. With this for ite groundwork, The Lie is intensely dramatic and many of its scenes have a heart appeal seldom cofiveyed so effectively in a motion picture. The picture was directed by J. Searle Dawley, and the scenario was the work of Charles Maigne, a famous scenarioist connected with the Arteraft staf.
