The candles are “of brass, in keeping with the other furnishings of the altar, are about two and a half feet high and beautifully wrought. Mr. Mitchell lost his life in an at- tempt to save the'life of a young man while sailing in Fisher’s Island sound. The candles are an appropriate and fitting memorial to the heroic rector.
