The community Christmas tree exer- cises will be held Sunday afternoon around the big red cedar tree that has been placed in Wilcox park between the postoffice and Memorial d Li- brary building. The pupils of the pub- lic schools have been trained to sing about the tree, under the directorship of Charles F. Hammond, and the pub- lic is invited to join in the singing. The words of the vocal selections will be thrown on a screen for the benefit of those who may not be familiar with them. The order ot exercizes will bs as fol- lows: Opening selection by the West- erly band, Charles O. Gavitt, leader; lighting of the big_tree by hu of electric lights; Christmas hymn, Come, All Ye Faithful; carols, Holy Night, It Came Upon the -Mlamght Clear; selection by ‘Westerly band; kymn, Hark, the Herald An‘ela Si.n‘; song, Keep the Home Fires Burning; Auld Lang Syne; America;, closing se- lection by Westerly band. It is planned to make this form of Christmas observance permanent in Westerly by the formation of a Com- munity istmas Tree association, with a nominal membership fee. The committee to arrange plans for the formation of the association is com- posed of Willard H. Bacon, Willlam Clark, Ira B. Crandall, Martin H. Spellman and Charles-F. Hammond. The Sunday school ehlldrcn of the Church of the Immaculate Conception will have Christmas , tree festivities next Thursday evening and the gifts from the tree will be distributed by & real Santa Claus. The exercises will include faney daneing, arills and sing- ing, all under the supervision of Mrs. Michael F. Driscoll. A solo, Fairylang, will be sung by Margaret Coleman, with chorus by the children. Margaret Hogan will sing a C‘f‘:flnmu carol, and little Elizabeth De Placiso will sing Jolly Ola St. Nick, and solos will also b esung by Margargs Whalen, Bleanor Daly and Mary Speliman.
