The wages are high and it is necessary for the contractors to pay as high as $450 for unskilled help. The reason for the scarcity of labor cannot be attributed to any one cause but is the result of several existing condi- tions. Many of the contractors have been forced to turn away work owing to the existing conditions, Garage for Tenth Street. A frame garage will be erected on Tenth street. near Central avenue, for Hyde & Bradford. The structure will be 10x18 and will be of wood con- struction. A building application has been filed with Fire Marshal Howard L. Stanton by Hyde Bros., who have the contract. To Put In Plate Glass Front. A plate glass front will be put in M. A. BARBER Machinest and Engineer Steam Engine Repairs Vicinity. 3 the store of Thomas McMahon on West Main street. The interior of the store will be altered and many other. im- provements made to the building. Setting Boiler in Place. Contractors Peck McWilllams Co. are now engaged in laying the brick- work for the new boiler house for the Brainerd & Armstrong Co. at their plant in Greeneville. The boiler, which is a large one, is being set in place by the contractors. Thamesville Tank House. The cement for the tank house being erected for the Norwich Woolen Co. at their plant in Thamesville has been poured and the contractors are waiting for it to harden before removing the forms. Peck, McWilliams Co. are flo- ing the work. Cement Bridge to Be Erected at Taft- ville. The old Blissville bridge at Taft- ville will be replaced in the spring by 2a new concrete structure of five spans. ‘The bridge when completed will be 200 feet long and 30 feet wide and will be a great improvement over the old bfld‘a which is only 18 feet wide. For the time being the old bridge will be repaired and used during the winter. The cement work for the coal pocket of the Shetucket Coal Co. has been completed and workmen are now put- ting on the roof and setting up the elevating machinery.
