CLARK’S FALLS Damage Déne bv Froat—School Term Begins. A heavy frost was over every thing Tuesday morning. Corn and beans have been rather late in maturing, on aeccount of frequent rains and suffered much, considerable corn being caught standing in the fleld. Opening of School. The district school opened Septem- ber 10th, with Miss Julia Fleming of Grafton, Mass, teacher. About fifteen children are in attendance. More are expected. The school house has been renovated and many improvements have been made, inside and out. Baptist church met with Mrs. Har- riet Edmonds, Tuesday afternoon. Theodore Noble of New London call- ed on friends in town Sunday. Miss Grace Lyon left Tuesday for Stonington there to resume work in the Wheeler District school for the ensuing year. Tell Why. ~ Psalms 33:1-22. The topic brought out some very in- teresting and helpful original thought in the meeting. Lead Kindly Light and Jesus Lover of My Soul were the two hymns that seemed to be the fa- vorites. ¢ Many from this place were in attend- ance at the Connecticut State fair in Berlin- this week. Jack Frost’s Work. The frost was white as snow here early Tuesday- morning, so much so that a sled would have run easily on grass ground. Of all crops that suf- fered from Jack-icy’s breath the most was the corn crop. Where it was possible farmers got busy at once and began cutting it up to save what they could, after theip hard summer’s toil. E. H.
