There were a number of local young men examined by the physi- cians of the examining board for the selective draft Thursday, but the ma- Jority of those physically qualified Claimed exemption. Thursday the first of the little metal buttons issued to the men who are exempt by reason of physical disability made their ap- pearance in the village. Aznés Alice Thursday the first Taftville bay was accepted for the new national army He is Arthur Dufour. After passing the examination he did not, as most of the other candidates, claim ex- emption. In- |stead of making personal appearance Dbefore the board he may file a cer- tificate. Upon receipt of such cer- tificate the local board will record him and hereafter treat him as one calied and physicaliy qualified for military service ‘and if no claim of exemption or discharge by or respect of such person is filed the name will be certi- fied to the district beard on Form 14§ as that of a person called and not ex- empted or discharged. Must Obtain Certificate. “Second. If the candidated is ap- pointed as a commissioned officer after he has heen ordered to report to a local board for examination. but before he is called as a drafted man to report to a local board for military duty and for transportation to a mobilization camp, he should obiain from his com- manding officer a certificate in dupli- cate that he has been appointed. He should forward one such certificate to the local hoard and forward the other to the adjutant general of the state. Poultry people have lately talked more about the high price of feed than auy other one thing. This. however, is a disturbing factor only when the hems @0 mot lay. Tn the contest each pen of 10 birds averaged to lay during July 11 14 dozen eggs that sold for an av- erage price of 42 1-3 cents a dozen. This means that the gross in come from each pen from the sale of eggs amounted tb $5.05, whereas each pen averaged to coneume 77 pounds of feed worth about $3 at the present market price.
