The surgeon genmeral of the regular army has prepared the man- ner of examination for the war de- partment and the instructions are exact and minute in detail. Warning is issued to the examining physicians to guard against fake claims for exemption on physical grounds. The government anticipates that some men will endeavor to slide out of the draft by false representa- tion. The’ complete text of the examina- tion to be pursued in each individual case is as follows: 1—It is important to begir: with that the examining physician should realize that there will be a certain proportion of men among those presenting them- gelves for examination who will en- deavor to obtain exemption by dissim- ulation, varying from exaggeration of an existing condition not disqualifying to downright malingering, and he should be prepared to protect the gov- ernment and himself agaipst such at- tempts at deception. Details of Examination. The physical examination should take piace in a large, well lighted room. The person examined is to be stripped. The examining physician should pro- ceed in substaftially the followins order, v A) Obler\e the general condition of th@ skin, scalp and cranium, ears, eves, nose, mouth, face, neck and chest.
