Price—Childrer Able to Gather But Few Flowers For Memorial Day. At the West Town Street school on Tuesday morning the pupils of the four grades assembled in the senior room at 9.30. o'clock, for Memorial day exercises. The children from _ the primary grade carried flags. There were patriotic songs and Trecitations. All recited in concert, Your Flag and My Flag; the Scout song was given with spirit and in good time; all rose when the Star Spangled Bamner was sung; the closing number was Amer- ica, with a salute to the flag and the song, There Are Many Flags in Many Lends. ‘Commander Orrin M. Price in his ad- dress said: In the songs you have just sung evervthing leads to the flag, I suppose because of our soldiers fight- ing there in France. Then followed the distribution of the bow-knots of the stars and stripes. Every pupil in the town of Norwich recelved one of these symbols, he said. He showed a plece of the flag carried out of the state of Connecticut by his regiment in 1862, That flag we carried until the spring of 1866, the time that resiment was in service. Some regiments had to guard ammunition and supplfes aft- er_the war was over. The colorbearer is a target for the enomy, sald the Veteran; if they can shoot down the flag they hope _to cause_confuslon in the ranks. Our color bearer was killed In the battle of Cedar Creek under Sheridan. I was appointed color bearer and carried the fag one and one-half years. In At- lanta, Georgia, as I was rolling it up, T saw two little pieces hanging each by a single thread, so took them off and saved them. Our country’s flag has been carried through hatties on land and on sea, it is carried in processions, in pa- rades of different societles. This sym- bol of victory is a reminder of the happenings in our country since its independence. Few Flowers Gathered. There will be no sessions in the up- town schools today (Wednesday. B cause of the rain of the week the chil- dren were able to gather but few flow- ers for Memorial day. Will Decorate Graves. H. S. Gay, a member of the G. A. R., who is spending some time on the Scotland road, goes to Montville today (Wednesday) to decorate soldiers’ graves. Heard and Se J. Albert Robinson of Boston, who was in town for the Zabriskle wedding, visited relatives uptown. Mrs. John O'Connor of Fishers Is- land is visiting her mother, Mrs. John Neagle of West Town gtreet. Charles B. Eccleston from South Glastonbury spent the week end at his home on the New London turnpike.
