Harry Foote was heard with much interest at Newen{ church Sunday morping. For the past year he has been frequently sent out from Mount Hermon school to the smaller churches in trat vicinity. Monday he visited in Madlson and Tuesday returned to Mount Hermon for the fall term. Warren Clark., another son of a former minister, Rev. Geo. W. Clark, has joined the militia now stationed on the border of Mexico. His com- pany letter only is different from that of Herbert Grave's brother, George of Attleboro, who in a Massachusetts regiment is also stationed on the bor- der at the same place. Rev. and Mrs. Jacob L. Speerll of Methodist church at the Plains are spending their vacation in New Jersey. Tugzene Perry of the Plains has been indisposed during this warm weather, but is working again. Sunday School Picnic. The picnic of the Congregational church and Sunday school proved a most enjoyable community affair. Nearly 150 were gathered in Babcock’s grove, althongh many were kept away by hay makingand a few by misunder- standing in regard to the Canterbury Plainfield quarantine. The sports and contests enlisted a crowd of young people. Allen_King, Georgietta Cau- trell, Maude Graves, were prize win- ners. Miss Tiefenbach of Wauregan won in a nail-driving test. The pic- nic grove on the Quinnebaug is loaned for such use by Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Babcock, whose kindness is much ap- preciated. Mrs. Eliphbalet Pierce of Central Falls, R. I, is caring for her aunt, Miss Place, who is seriously ill. Herbert Baker of Central Village has bought Arthur Bennett's farm at North Society. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bennett have moved to the Green. Henry Baumister, a former resident now a druggist in Webster, was seri- ously injured in an automobile acci- dent at Auburn, N. H. last Saturday.
