The health department takes this stand on the ground that a child might be well when it was examined but it might be carrying the germ which does not incubate for several days afterward. A case of this sort was found in New London only the other_day when little William Brod of New York was stricken by the malady ang_ died. He had been apparently in perfect health when he came to New London. Children who are in transit to some other plage and who are not obliged to stop off will be permitted to go throush to their destination. The order is issued because it has been learned that children from the surrounding towns where cases of ing fantile paralysis have developed have been entering the city for a day’s out- ing and then returning to their homes. Dr. Chipman made the following statement in connection with the sit- uation in New London: “We have hesitated to take a radical position in reference to the infantile paralysis, but the time has come when the diagnostician says it is necessary and to have the recovery short and complete a most thorough position must be taken. Hence the order to exclude children under 16 vears of age without permission of the health om—’cgt, from entering the city.
