Hartford, Conn., June §.—Vice Presi- dent O’'Neill of the Hastern baseball league decided tonight that the game played between Hartford and New Ha- yen kere last Friday should be played over. In this game Umpire Waters was watching a play which retired a man on third, it being the third out, while a run was being scored by New Haven. The umpire did not see the lay at home, but appealed to the of- ial scorer, who said- that -the man was out at third before the runmer | crossed the plate. ‘Manager Murphy of New Haven pro- tested that the run had crossed the plate before the put was made and ap- pealed. STOCK MARKET FLUCTUATED Prices of Special Stocks Rose on Ex- pansion of Professional Activity. New - York, June 6.—Special stocks as. well as Tepresentative issues were elevated again today on an expansion of professional activity. The mar- ket's coyrse was -altogether inconsis- however, in_that it ignoréd the er to. the British military ad- m at the outset, but de- cliniéd later on the favorable auguries iconveyed in & number of increased ividends. Announcement of an early 'settlement of long-standing differences among interests in Mercantile Marine proved of negative value to shipping shares, which were especially weak at the close. - The reversal of the later ~ session was concurrent with an advance in call money to 4 per cent., the highest quotation in 18 months. Local banks recently expressed their disapproval of the movement in certain of .the more volatile issues and the harden- ing of loan rates may not be without its significance in that quarter. Motor stocks were less active and more irvegular than yesterday. Willys- Overland made an extreme recovery of § to 312, but fell far short of its record price. Maxwells, Goodrich and U. S. Rubber were higher at in- tervals by one to two points, but Chandler fell about eight points, with moderate backwardness in other mo- tors and accessories. Sugars repeat- ed their familiar performance of mounting to higher levels, South Por- to Rico common and preferred touch- ing 286 and 120, respectively, with 83 1-2. for American Beet. Some of the better known war issues like Crucible Steel and Baldwin ZLocomotive had their narrow flights ~ and _Bethlehem Steel gained six points, but United States Steel lagged in charactetistic fashion, developing heaviness at the close. "Coppers were only mildly re- sponsive to higher dividends, while other specialties, including Harvest- ers, American Writing Paper prefer- red and U. S. Smelting, denoted the actlvity of pool and cliques. Norfolk and Western fastened its claim to leadership of the rails on a further advance of 2 3-8 to the new high price of 186 318, with variable gains in some of the Pacifics, Read- ing and the cotton carriers. These were largely effaced in the general selling of the final hour. Total sales amounted to: 625,000 shares. Marine 4 1-2's imparted firmness to the general bond list on their ad- vance to the nmew high quotation of 104 3-4. Total sales of bonds, par value, aggregated $3,760,000. U.
