Although Norwich Merchants’® week is not scheduled to open until Satur- day, May 13, yet it will, to all intents be inaugurated on Fri- 1.1 +when at 7.80 two fire alarm bell an- the opening of the prize win- dow contest in whlch the public is in- vited to participate. The purpose of the prize contest is to interest the public in the Merchants’ week displays that will be made the various stores that are interested in the Mer- chants’ week plan. <Cash prizes amounting to ns will be given to the first persons who make the round of the 78 stores and make a list of enough of the letters to spell Norwich Mer- chants’ Week. Tubbs’ Band to Play. As already stated, the Merchants’ week programme will begin with two “strokes on the city fire alarm bell, which will be given at 7.30 Friday evening. At the seme hour Tubbs' Mil- itary band will make its appearance and when the first strains of martial music are heard on the streets it will be understood that Merchants' week plan has been launched. The prome- nade concert will start at the Chelsea bank promptly at 7.30 and the band will proceed through the business sec- tion of the city, the concert closing about 8.30., A Characteristic Letter. That the Merchants’ week plan is arousing a great deal of interest with a correct list $3 will be given, to_the third arrival $2.
