ANNOUNCEMENTS OPERA PATIENCE AT . DAVIS THEATRE MAY 17 To be Given Under the Auspices of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Y. M. C. A : Patience, or Bunthorne’s Bride, by Gilbert_and Sullivan, the composers of H. M. S. Pinafore, The Pirates of . Penzeance and a score of other light operas, which is to be given at the Davis May 17, matinee and evening, under the auspices of the Woman's ‘Auxiliary of the Y. M. C. A., is known as one of the prettiest pieces of stage .work which these prolific authors ever ‘wrote. While Pinafore may be some- what better known than any of their works it is entirely the result of the fact that this opera is very easily staged and consequently first chosen for amateur performance. Pinafore is a satire on the English navy while Patience in the same way ridicules the craze of astheticism which pre- vailed in England at the time this op- era was written. Bunthorne, an in- sipid nobleman, in his love of female admiration affects the guise of the aesthetic poet, writes sickly sentimen- Tue This is a sreat picture and shows this talented actress in ome of her best parts. The Keystone comedy is called- A Love Riot, featuring Charles Mur- ray, supported by a star cast of Key- stone favorites. As an added attrac- tion on this bill there will be a two- reel Charlie Chaplin comedy called Woman, an extremely funny picture, showing this wonderful fun maker at his best. This is the first time this comedy has ever been snown at the Davis. The regular time and prices will prevail next week. Matinee at 2.15, all seats 10 cents; evening at 6.45 and 8.45, 10, 15 and 20 cents. Spe- cial music by the Davis concert or- chestra. Don’t fail to see this big show. NEXT WEEK AT THE AUDITORIUM Bob Ott Musical Comedy Company and Fannie Ward in The Cheat. There will be something doing at the Auditorium every afternoon and night next week, because Bob Ott's Musical Comedy company will present six new high class musical comedies in which the amusing situations most of the time fairly run riot. The cordial re- ception accorded this company every- where they appear is an indication that the time is ripe for just this xina oi show, wherein the action is swift, the comedy crisp vet clean, the aances pretty and the music melodious. The whole is punctuated at frequent inter- vals by, the introduction of a lot of wholesome looking ¢horus ladles, whose dances, marches and poses add materi- FOR SALE FOR SALE—Twelve milk cows -In- uire 169 Franklin St. a) . Grosvenor, who is “gifted with a beau- ty_which' probably has mo rival on ‘earth” is so dismayed at the popi- larity of Bunthorne that he too as- sumes the garb and manner of the aesthete and the ladies immediately desert their former idol and follow Grosvenor. Even the officers of the Dragon Guards, who had become quite accustomed to the admiration of the ladies, in their despair, are forced to follow suit. Bnuthorne, who is re- sponsible for the whole situation now becomes so madly jealous of Gros- venor's success that he compels him under threat to again become “a mat- ter of fact voung man. ally to the beauty of the excellent at- tractions. Make no mistake by confusing this with regular dramatic attractions. Bob Ott's comedians, headed by himself, present musical comedies in which the features are much as patrons expect in regular $1.50 shows. Bob Ott has no peer as a comedian and his well gown- ed chorus has few equals and no su- periors. ‘Besides this big attraction, Para- mount five-reél features will be shown each day from 2 to 3 in the afternoon and from 7 to 8 evenings. Monday's feature is one of Lasky’s best produc- tions, entitled The Cheat, featuring Fanny Ward, supported by Sussue Hayakawa, ‘the well known Japanese Patience, the village milkmaid, who has vacillated between love and duty, finally bestows her affections upon Grosvenor: the ladies return to the Dragoon Guards and Bunthorne still wearing his aesthetic guise is left alone. The opera is full of pretty plctures, pretty music, pretty girls; and will be a_delight both to see and to listen to. The committee in charge urgently requests the advance pur- chase of tickets in order that the fi- nancial success of the performances may be assured. | AT THE DAVIS TODAY. Three More Performances Conclude the Engagement of the Norwich Fa- votes, Homan’s Musical Revue. Homan's Musical Revue concludes engagement today by presenting three performances, one this afternoon and two this evening. The Homan Revue players have made many new friends in the past week as_well as Tenewing many old ones. Yesterday the revue presented the most laugh- able success of the week, Casey at the Midnight Cabaret, which is one |continuous laugh from start to finish, 'any many of the theatregoers of the {Davis considerea it the best that had |been presented durinz the week. It i1s about the so-called Casey who vis- its the cabaret after having a hard !time to get away from his wife. Up- ‘on arriving at the cabaret he meets an old friend, and in the meantime ‘meets many new ones. After Casey becomes acquainted he feels right to home, then the fun start Casey’s friends start to play all sorts of jokes on him, but good na- tured Casey takes all this in good fun, and in the midst of all this Bob Jew- ett and Clara Elgin display a few dancing steps, William O'Connell puts over a couple of Irving Berlin's_latest ballads, Gene Beaudry is heard in a mew bass solo and many gags, etc., are displaved. Of course Casey has 0 be the goat in all this, but he has just as much fun as his associates. The Cabaret will be presented today, with just as much frolic that was Ppresented yesterday. The feature photoplay is an ex: ing five part Triangle Grama, Flying Torpedo, with John Emerson, the well known actor and author, in | the leading role. The story is an im- aginative ore, woven around an _in-| ventor who has successfully made a machine for flvinz torpedocs. Before he can compicie ihe manufacture of them, he is mystericusly killed ana it is the runninz to earth of the murder- er by Archibald Claverin, a detective of eccentric manners, and a Swedish servani girl, which makes the story | ohe of the most thriliing of the year.| village Biacksmith, an uproerious funny two-reel Ki complete the show tone comedy, will DAVIS THEATRE The Banner Show of the Season for | Monday, Tucsday and Wednosday— | Three Big Keith Acts, Triangle Photoplays and a Charlie Chaplin Comedy. There are three big Keith veudeville acts, Triangle plctures, Keystone comedies and asan added attraction there will be a two- reel Charlle Chanlin comedy. In the vaudeville the adline attraction is the Stanley Trio, which comes ko Charlie Chaplin in a Two Reel Com- edy at the Davis Theatre Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
