Big Minstrel Show a Novel Attraction for Next Week—Paramount Pictures. A very unusual attraction for a pop- ular priced house has been booked by the management of the Auditorium for all next week, with a complete change of programme on Thursday, in Phll Taylor's Greater Broadway Minstrels It is an all-men aggregatiom, fourteen in _number, and a twelve-piece band, and comes to Norwich very highly recommended; in fact, many flattering advance reports have been received or the show. Although there will be no raise in prices at the Auditorium next week, the Greater Broadway Minstrels will give a performance worthy of three times the usual prices which pre- vail at this popular house. Special stage settings will be used as well as several novel electrical effects, and the show is full of comedy from' start to finish. There will be a full half hour first part, followed by another half hour of olio numbers. In the first part Mr. Phil Taylor himself will act as interlocutor and Harry Williams and Ed. Watson, two very clever fellows will be the end men. There are eight soloists and several fine .uartette numbers will be rendered in excellent harmony. On the whole, the Greater Broadway Minstrels will give an ex- traordinary entertainment and some- thing that is entirely away from the ordinary vaudeville and mus‘cal com- edy bilis. Albert Spalding. Albert Spalding, the American vio- linist, who made his first big_tolr of the South this seasons, tells the very amusing story of how he came to com- pose “Alabama” One day he was seated at one of the Parls a couple of sportily dressed Amerlcan Degroes came in. From their conver- sation, Mr. Spaldine mathered that the ALBERT SPALDING two (not being able to speak French) were exceedingly lonely and were | longing for a chance to get back home as soon as possible. ~ The con- versation amused Mr. Spalding to such an extent that he walked over and asked where they were from. Eoth answered in unison, “Mobile, boss.” The taller of the two then gave the violinist to understand that Mobile was in Alabama, and as soon as he could shake the dust of Paris and get back to the little town on the Mobile " he done was qwine to stay dar forever. Valets for wealthy Ameri- cans were not in it with hoeing tobac- co and cotton in Old Alabama" The incident amused Mr. Spalding to such an extent that a few days later he composed this famous darkey melody, which in a way is a classlc. Mr. Spalding will play this number at his coming recital in Loomer Opera houses ‘Willimantic, Wednesday, April 5. H. W. Gibson to Be Speaker. H. W.
