Taylor is having a com- pressed system of water installed in his house. NORTH - STONINGTON Thanksgiving Services—Family Gath- erings on the Holiday—Salary of Baptist Pastor Increased. Each of the local churches held Thanksgiving services Sunday morn- ing. At the Congregational church offered prayeér. The choir sang an anthem, and an offertory duet was given by Miss Coates and Mr. Hutch- ins, organ and violin. Children in Oriental Costumes. The mission study class of-the Third Baptist church held its meeting Tuesday afternoon at _the home of Miss Dora T. Maine. Miss Maine as leader infuses much interest into these studles. A dozen children appearing in Oriental costume was an effective -closing number of the pro- gramme. Boys dreseed as lies passed salvers filled with small 8akes. Mrs. O. D. Fisher arrived home Tuesday evening from a week’s ab- sence in South Windham and Water- bi-weekly ry. Holiday Family Reunions. Mrs. Thomas P. Norman entertained a large family party, her children and grandchildren, Thanksgiving day. The Thompson family held their usual Thanksgiving gathering, picnic fashion, at the home of one of the brothers, George A. Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. John D. Avery enter- :-llned a large party over Thanksgiv- ng. Mrs. E. H. Knowles entertained her son, Dr. W. H. Knowles, and other friends at Thanksgiving dinner. Rev. and Mrs. Lucian Drury spent the Thanksgi: holiday at the home vin, of Mr. Drury’s sister in Newton Cen- ter, Mass. 2 Pastor’s Salary Raised. The Third Baptist church gave its pastor, A. L. Townsend, a good Thanksgiving by raising his salary $200. Mr. Townsend, who is a student in Boston university, is usually out of town from Monday morning until Fri- day night. Going to West Virgini Rev. W. F. Newton, Baptist state colporteur, was in the village Monday. He has been holding a series of meet- ings at Voluntown and Peéndleton Hill and reports conversions at each place. He goes next week to West Virginia to engage in chapel car work for the winter. School Enumeration 269, The annual enumeration of children in town of school age shows the num- ber to be 269. Rabbit Pies a la Brown. The grange gave its annual rabbit supper last Saturday evening. The rabbit pies were made by the rule of Charles N. Brown, a noted chef in that line, and were pronounced the best ever. The attendance was large. Work shipping stone from the quar- ry is progressing rapidly, the stone being shipped to Quincy, Mass. GOSHEN Fox Prowling Early Shot by Owner of Flock of Geese—Late Cherry Blooms. Miss Amy A. Randall of East Hart- ford has been spending a few da with friends in this place. Miss Ra dall sang a solo at the morning ser- vice Sunday. Early Fox Gets the Gun. Early one morning this week a local farmer was awakened by the contin- uous barking of his watch dog. Look- ing out the window, he saw a fox sit- ing on his lawn and wistfully looking toward his fine flock of geese to see which one would make the best Thanksgiving dinner. The farmer pro- cured his gun and stepping out on the veranda and taking careful aim, blazed away. Reynard gave a bound and fell over dead. His weight was ten pounds and the fur was very hand- some.
