There is a large acreage of potatoes planted but farmers are figuring on a rather light yield as they ars rot- ting badly. Farmers are having their grain threshed. The old way of beating out grain with hand flails has long since passed away. Mrs. Charles Griswold and daughter, Mrs. Frank Harwood and son Percival of Norwich, spent Thursday with Miss Katie Willey at her cottage in the pines. Funerai of Mrs. Grace R. Saunders. The funeral of Mrs. Grace R Saun- ders, wife of the Saunders, late Christopher took place Saturday after- noon at two o'clock ‘at Saunder's grove. The service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. William Knappen- berger. Mrs. Saunders had reached the age of 32 years, lacking a few days. She suffered sorely during the last days of her life. Her daughter- in-law, Mrs. A. C. Saunders, cared for her most tenderly during her entire fliness of several years. She left a son, A. C. Saunders, and a daughter, Mrs. Acorn of Portland, Me. She had a number of grandchildren. Mrs. Jane Puckingham and daugh- ter, Mrs. Nichois, will pass the winter in_ Niantic. Fred Saunders is working with Starr Brothers in New London.
